Emmie telling her Great Grandma "Grammie" goodbye on Sunday morning |

Pentoga Road
The house is quiet this morning. Too quiet. Mom's sitting across the living room absorbed in her computer. I'm doing the same and Sargie's getting ready to go to work. Where did all the action go?
Matt, Jessica, and Emmie, were up and out of here early Sunday morning. It was tough seeing them drive down the road. Still, to paraphrase Jessica's dad, who lives in northern Maine, "You can't come back until you leave."
Matt sent text messages on and off throughout the day letting us know where they were. The flight to from Green Bay to O'Hare, and finally, onto Manchester, New Hampshire, were all seamless and they were home by 6 PM last night. A perfect ending to a perfect trip.
I feel as though we're in the calm before the storm. There's a huge storm front hanging off to our west, slowly churning this way. With a 100% chance of rain and storms, some forecast to be severe, we'll be battoning down the hatches in short order.
After Matt and family departed on Sunday, Sargie and Macrea did several loads of his laundry while Mom and I served on Grady duty.
Trying to keep Grady in the house was like fencing a bull in a China shop with chicken wire. I suggested we relocate outside... a wise move on Grandpa's part.
Grady and I saddled up the little blue four-wheeler and took a ride.
It was mid-afternoon when we hugged and kissed Grady and Macrea and saw them drive down the road. No matter how close or far, it's hard to see our children leave. We had a fun and loving time while all were here.
It was time for a drive! Mom, Sargie, and I, headed into town to do some grocery shopping then drove around the area gawking at people's lawns, gardens, and homes.
Last night was spent eating leftovers and ice cream while watching television followed by an early bedtime.
Sargie's back to work today. Mom will be gathering her belongings and packing for her noontime departure on Tuesday.
In typical Grady style, he fell asleep before we were out of the drive. It seems I have the ability to make even the most active munchkin slumber. |
Me? I'm going grade papers and watch it rain with the distinct possibility of slipping into a grandpa nap later this afternoon.
After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
