Tuesday was Baby Grady's first-ever haircut. |

Pentoga Road
It's been another action-packed day filled with a trip to the recycle place in town, picking up the blue four-wheeler, and working around the garden.

I was writing an email early Tuesday morning when I looked out the window and discovered I was being watched. |
I followed Sargie to the township hall this morning to vote against Michigan's Proposition One... the brainchild of our politicians that would have raised the gasoline tax by over 33 cents a gallon and the sales tax from 6 to 7%. Thankfully, the proposition crashed and burned and our liberal Republican tax-happy governor pronounced it dead before the polls closed. Our politicians have promised they will tax the residents of Michigan for road repair and why wouldn't they? They're politicians. I think the residents spoke rather loudly today in protest as over 80% voted against the proposition.
Back home, I loaded an old refrigerator onto the trailer and took it to the scrap metal dealer. I also donated four old chairs to the thrift shop.
I stopped and picked up the blue four wheeler from Mechanic Larry's on my way out of town. It looks downright mean with the new tires.
After unloading the ATV, I took the trailer back to Yooper Brother Mark's plant to be loaded with wood.
Finally home to stay, the next order of business was to weed the asparagus bed. It took almost two hours, but should ward off the worst of the weeds for the next several weeks.

The strawberry patch in the orchard was spreading into the asparagus bed. I weeded and removed any berry plants, transplanting them on the opposite side of the orchard. |

A small rhubarb plant coming up from seed. |

Wednesday will be potato day on Pentoga Road. I'll be emptying out a dozen large cloth pots that held blueberries and be used to raise this year's potatoes. Rather than planting the eyes in rows, they'll be placed in pots and lightly covered, with more soil being added as they grow.
I spent quite a while this afternoon on the backhoe barely scrapping off the top layer of topsoil in the rear of the property and loading it into the old truck. I'll use that soil throughout the summer to keep covering the potatoes as they grow.
It was hot and Brutus was being a knuckle head. Normally a very mellow and calm dog, when he wants to go swimming, he keeps following me around like a three year old child, continually bumping into me.
He finally got his way. We went to the lake and played fetch for well over half an hour.
The last activity of the day was to take a ride down to the Brule River on the blue ATV. It was nice to cool off and try out the new tires.
Sargie had to close tonight and she wasn't home until later in the evening. Since she opens tomorrow, tonight will be a short one.
I may try to go fishing first thing in the morning. I got the boat ready today, but the wind refused to subside towards evening as it usually does. Maybe tomorrow.
As I mentioned, tomorrow will be potato day. It's that time of year.

You can see why I have the electric deer fence around the garden and orchard. |
I need to pack Sargie's lunch for tomorrow and make the morning's coffee before I go to bed. Time to get moving.
After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
