53 degrees/rainy/windy
Mackinaw City, Michigan
Everyone was up fairly early on Tuesday and on the 10 AM ferry to Mackinac Island. It was windy and the waves were running four feet or more. The ferry ride was a lot of fun and no one got sick.
Again, there's little time to write, so I'll let the pictures tell the story.
Heading to the ferry terminal |
Brent, Ashley, and Brielle |
The "rooster tail" thrown up in back of the fast ferry. |
The fort up on the hill. |
The girls are off the ferry and looking for a fun day on the island |
Motor vehicles aren't allowed on the island, so all freight is hauled by horse and wagon. |
Sargie's trying to decide what color wind breaker she wants. |
Several of us rented bicycles and peddled the eight miles around the perimeter of the island. Though I was the only "old person," I loved it. |
Brielle and Aubrey are being pulled in the trailer behind Brent. |
We're going to begin the three hour drive to Iron Mountain a bit later this morning, pick up Brutus, then head back to Pentoga Road. I know there have been storms while we've been gone and no doubt, I'll have to mow the yard and trails on Thursday. Friday is July 4th and we'll be at Derek and Leah's for the annual Mighty Milligan Fourth of July celebration.
Time to wake up Sargie, sip coffee and grade assignments while she's getting ready for the day, and begin packing the car.
Holy cow, I just looked at the weather and see there are frost advisories out for home tonight with a low of 36 degrees forecast. FROST? Isn't this the 2nd of July? Ah, that's right, it's global warming. Maybe I can get Al Gore to come up and help me cover the garden to save as many delicate plants as possible.

After all, a man's work is never done.
Heading back to the mainland. The wind was gusting to 30 mph and the waves were large causing us to occasionally be sprayed. |
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
