Neighbor Mike called last night and said there was a huge bear and three smaller ones in his hayfield. I took some far away pictures of four black dots, but wanted to see them better, so in the end, I walked down a gully out of sight, then crawled through the field. When Mama Bear stood up, I had thoughts that maybe I'd crawled a little too close.

The camera was getting a few pictures on the card, so I figured I ought to upload those to make room for more.

It's been a busy last couple of days. I'll let the pictures tell the story.

Even after pressure washing, the boards on the back deck were looking pretty bad, so I decided to flip them over. As of now, I'm halfway done. The part I've completed looks new.

There was a small hornet's nest on the bottom of one board; an unpleasant surprise.
I worked in the garden most of Tuesday setting out the Walls of Water and digging the remainder of last season's carrots. Most weren't good, but those that had been covered by debris over the winter were fine. The starch in the carrots has turned to sugar and when Sargie fixed some last night for supper, it was like eating sticks of candy.

I also grafted a couple of trees on Tuesday morning. I'd like to put twenty or more varieties of apples on one tree in the orchard. Just playing.
Sargie took advantage of the nice weather to hang out laundry. Brutus had other plans for her.
We took a drive later in the afternoon. The lakes are quickly losing their ice and fifteen miles away on Camp Lake, a pair of loons have already settled in for the summer months.
Neighbor Mike and his son, Dr. Paul, have been turkey hunting. Dr. Paul shot this big ol' Tom turkey on Monday afternoon.
So, it's been a busy last couple of days. With the weather turning, it seems there aren't enough hours to go around. I'm going to walk first thing this morning then work on the deck the rest of the day. Rain is forecast so who knows?

Sargie works early. I'll go to Iron Mountain this afternoon and ride home with her. Tomorrow morning, I have to have some blood drawn at the lab in Iron Mountain, so will ride back over with her then.

Time to listen to the news and think about getting busy. After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
