December 2, 2012 – Sunday
36 degrees
Pentoga Road

It’s football Sunday… and the Packers play Minnesota. With the magic Green Bay ornament on the Christmas tree alongside the television, the Packers are sure to win… aren’t they?

The word to describe Saturday is F-O-G. The thermometer registered a dramatic rise, the snow is being reduced to random piles of slush, and yesterday’s air was thick with soup due to the contrasting temperatures. It wasn’t pretty. As of 8 PM on Saturday night, the weather service published a warning with zero visibility. I’m thankful Sargie didn’t have to drive in it. I think she’d have been staying in Iron Mountain. The fog appears to have lifted this morning.

Saturday was a lazy day. I served a large omelet to Sargie for breakfast then spoiled myself by enjoying a strip of loin venison, eggs, and toast. I’d tried sharing with Sargie, but she preferred bacon rather than venison for breakfast. Fried in garlic butter and smothered in mushrooms, the loin was tender enough to cut with a fork. I’ll have what was left over today.

There's no man-rule stating a guy can't have peanut butter and jelly with his venison, mushrooms, and eggs.
After a brief journey to town, Sargie started decorating, a chore she finished by early evening. I busied myself supervising from the recliner, occasionally fixing a couple of broken ornaments, and in the end, carried empty boxes to the basement.

While in town, I purchased some small hinges and other paraphernalia to make several ermine boxes. I’ll start construction on those soon. We also stopped by the grocery store where I purchased a bottle of anise oil, something ermine find yummy. It smells like licorice to me. I hope to begin setting out ermine boxes this coming week around the area. I told Mandy Jo I’d be shipping my hides up to her to support her fur-sewing business, but first, I have to catch the critters they’re attached to.

I also saw a portable one-man "Clam" ice fishing shelter at our local hardware store. I was tempted... oh, how I was tempted. I almost purchased one last year and two years ago when it was on clearance in March. I wish I would have.

Inside the Clam
Sargie has the house looking like Christmas. I still marvel at her artistic skills. There are many ornaments and displays that she painted, mostly on pottery.

We played cards last night and the reining Rummy queen’s rule is still intact. I contend she ought to be a professional card player on a river boat rather than an optician.

It’s getting light out and appears the fog lifted during the night, at least I can see the trees in the backyard which is more than I could do yesterday afternoon. It’s time to greet the day and do something constructive… like pour another cup of coffee.

Why? Because a man’s work is never done.

And so are the tales from Pentoga Road…

Sargie presented me with this ornament and laughed and laughed. I don't get it...
