December 3, 2012 – Monday
37 degrees
Pentoga Road

Well, now, that was a short winter! Ah, the cold and snow of a few days ago, the low temperature of -3 degrees. It was a mild winter, although with the wind howling at one point, fairly brutal… for a minute or two until the gust subsided.

Frozen across just two days ago, one of our local lakes is once again completely open.
The current warm spell is to end this evening, then it’s back to more winter-like norms.  Oh well, the snow is gone and until it falls again, I can work outside until the real winter arrives… which is due anytime.

It was nice walking Sunday morning. The clock was chiming ten when I entered the back door. I plan to do the same this morning. It certainly invigorates me and helps in the battle of the belly.

I watched the Green Bay vs Minnesota game. If Green Bay loses any more players, they’ll be down to putting the janitor and water boy on the field. Still, the boys eked out an ugly win over Minnesota and with Chicago’s overtime loss to Seattle, are now in first place, the first time this season. In fact, everyone in the division lost except the Packers, making their chances for a playoff much better.

We went for a ride later in the afternoon. It was a crummy day and other than take the long way home from town, didn’t drive around too much.

Mark and Sheri stopped out late in the afternoon. It was great seeing our good friends. With all of life’s twists and turns, it seems we’re always so busy that when we do get together, the talk is nonstop.

After last night’s game, I’m the current Pentoga Road Rummy champion, winning by forty points in a game to a thousand. For whatever reason, the cards were falling my way.

Today is going to be spent constructing ermine boxes. I have enough lumber to make three of them… I think. Since this is the last warm day forecast, I want to take full advantage of it, first by hiking, then working in the shop.

Sargie is looking at six straight days of work. Her boss is on vacation so they’ll be short-handed and no doubt, busy.

It’s getting light out. I suppose I should end this, throw a log of the fire, and grab another cup of coffee. After all, a man’s work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road…

Don't cry. He'll be back again someday.
