Look who spent Friday with Cheeks!
I wish someone would feed that baby.
February 20, 2021 - Saturday morning
-20 degrees/clear skies/calm winds
Pentoga Road
It's a practice in speed writing this morning as I overslept. The daylight streaming through our bedroom window brought me from a deep slumber, the first time that's happened since early last fall.
Telling Yooper Brother Mark goodbye after our Friday morning walk and seeing Grandma Sargie off to see Cheeks for the day, I built a fire in the outdoor wood furnace to warm the shop.
I returned inside the house to do some writing and correspondence. Almost an hour passed before the shop had warmed to a relatively comfortable 35 degrees. Time to get to work.
First was to run the vacuum and clean. Sawdust covered everything and tools were scattered everywhere.
It was time to get to work. The segmented rings were removed from the large hose clamps that held them together while the glue dried almost three weeks ago.
It's going to take some sanding, but at some point, each ring will be ready to glue on top of another forming the layers of a bowl.
There's a tenon attached to the bottom solid circle that will allow everything to be turned on the lathe. That's when the real hollowing, shaping, and sanding, will happen.
It's a process.
The crappie scroll saw piece was freed from the clamps that had held it to the backing after being glued.
I'm already working on a bluegill intarsia/segmented piece with the crappie and bluegill to be given as a gift together.
Sargie and Hambone pulled in the drive last evening, both energized for different reasons. Grandma Sargie had spent a day with Cheeks, doing those things that Grandmas do. Hambone was happy because the weekend was ahead, one filled with sledding and snowmobiling.
Last night was spent cheering and booing while watching Battlebots. Hambone loves the excitement of watching one wheeled robot rip another to pieces.
Can't say I mind it either.
Mark's on his way out for our Saturday morning walk. Once again, it's a bit nippy out there, a cool, even, twenty below zero. Yeah, so much for the warming trend Carl the Weatherman promised just a day ago.
The Caspian ski hill is on our agenda today. Hambone's so excited that he even brought his three person sled so we can all slide down the former ski slope together.
Rub-a-dub-dub... three men in a tub.
Yeah, stay tuned for that one. Hopefully, there'll be ample pieces of me left that are still attached to write tomorrow's entry.
Meanwhile, just remember:
A man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
