February 18, 2021 - Thursday morning
6 degrees/cloudy skies/calm winds
Pentoga Road

I'm almost beside myself to wake up to temperatures above zero. Six degrees may not sound like much to you, but put into perspective, it's thirty-six degrees warmer right now than it was yesterday at this time.

Wednesday morning's trek was a chilly one. The thermometer was showing thirty below zero and the strong headwind made it a bit uncomfortable.

Not to worry.

Comfort was only one large hill-climb away. Walking rapidly to the top, I was soon hitting on all cylinders.

I'm currently following the weather on the Appalachian Trail in an attempt to see what I'll be up against a year from now.

Looking at the extended forecast, I can foresee no small amount of misery, but also some perfect hiking weather. As it's said by those who make the journey from Georgia to Maine, "No pain, no rain, no Maine."

I'll be ready.

Hey, look at this little darling. It's Dr. Katie's newest, Meridee Joy.

I'm already looking forward to this summer when Meridee brings her brothers over to play and visit so I can nibble on those cheeks and blow bubbles on her belly.

Yesterday afternoon was spent in the garden house running wires and hooking up electric receptacles. The job would have been done except I ended up one outlet box short. I'll purchase another at the hardware store today so we can put this puppy to bed.

The really exciting news on Pentoga Road is that I put down a deposit on the equipment for Elon Musk's Starlink internet satellite service. They only promise that it will become available this coming year, but we're willing to wait.

Between horrible cell service, made possible only by using a booster, and an often nonexistent internet signal, our communication to and from Pentoga Road is often worse than it was when I lived in the arctic.

With speeds fifty to a hundred times faster than we currently experience, both phone and internet should bring us into the 21st century.

Today looks to be much the same as Wednesday. My main goal is to finish wiring the garden house. I doubt I'll get out to the shop, but it's definitely on my things to do list now that the temperatures are beginning to moderate.

The sun is peaking over the spruce trees.

Time to go for a walk.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...

The Inspector General/Code Officer came to visit while I working in the garden house Wednesday afternoon.
