I'd already hiked my usual three miles earlier, so when Sargie said something about doing some additional walking together, I readily agreed.
We eventually left the regular path and followed a four wheeler trail up Stambaugh Hill, the top of which overlooks the town of Iron River.
The rest of the day was pretty mundane. I worked on my hiking gear, eliminating that which I won't need and putting the rest in my pack that I'll be using. My goal is to keep the base weight to under fifteen pounds, no easy task, since I'll be starting in February. On my last long distance hike of many years ago, my pack weighed 43 pounds and that was during the summer months. Initially on the AT, I fully expect to be hiking in snow and sleeping in nighttime temperatures that can bottom out in the single numbers.
Thursday also found me playing in the shop and working on a couple of bowls. It was just a good day to be alive.
Sargie and I walked to Neighbor Sue's last night and had a good visit. Like many other seniors, she's holed up, waiting for this virus thing to pass so she can get on with her normal life. Aren't we all?
Today looks to be much the same as yesterday. I'll be heading out the door in a few minutes for my usual walk. After that, who knows? The forecast is calling for lots of sun and once again, highs near 70. We'll take it!
After all, every days a holiday, every meal's a feast.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
