The sugar maples surrounding our home are beginning to show their fall colors
September 14, 2020 - Monday morning
35 degrees/clear skies/calm winds
Pentoga Road

I just came back inside and had to blow on my hands to warm them up. It's feeling like fall out there this morning. The forecast for the week is for sunny skies and Tuesday's high is to be near 80 degrees. Unfortunately, in the days after, I see the thermometer's to top out in the 50's and 60's.

Sunday was a lazy one. After dancing Saturday night away and running on only a few hours of sleep, my body wasn't anxious to get off the couch for any length of time. In fact, I was halfway through my mid morning walk before my blood turned from gel to liquid and the cobwebs cleared from between my ears.

It warn't purty.

Hmm, I wonder how I survived in my drinking days, when the night before was an embarrassing haze and my head felt ready to explode the next morning.

It must be true, the old adage that says it's too bad that youth is wasted on the young.

I was surprised to see how many popple (aspen) leaves are beginning to cover the road. They turn a boring brown with occasional yellow and are the first to fall.

The more pretty fall colors are becoming prominent. It won't be too many more days before our world will be filled with abundant reds, yellows, and oranges, and green will be a color of the distant past, at least for another year.

After a lazy brunch, Sargie and I took our usual Sunday drive and visited a couple of area lakes.

I felt my eyelids growing increasingly heavy so our drive was short. Still, we appreciated the beauty of the north woods, even if it was abbreviated.

The rest of the day was spent on the couch and often, behind closed eyes.

Other than fixing a bite to eat last night, neither of us moved too far out of the living room until it was time for bed.

In family news, Josh sent a couple of pictures of Ellie and Cody fishing near their home in Connecticut.

Admittedly, I wasn't always the world's best father, but one thing I am proud of is that I took the sons fishing and hunting whenever possible. What makes me even happier is that they are doing the same with their children, our grandbabies.

I'm going for my walk at first light this morning. Looks to be a long pants, stocking cap, and glove day, at least to begin with.

On today's agenda:

We need to stop by the township hall and pay our summer property taxes as they are due this week. If anyone has a pile of cash sitting around that they don't know what to do with, send it this way.

I think I'll temporarily forsake the insulating job in the garden house and begin rebuilding the roof over the outdoor wood furnace. The extended weather forecast shows only sunny skies so there's no time like the present.

As they say, it's time to make hay while the sun shines.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...

Ol' Lukie sure scored a big buck on the first day of Maine's archery season. It was the perfect heart/lung shot.
