A beautiful hydrangea bush at Jeanne and Boyd's in Iron Mountain |
55 degrees/heavy rain/calm winds
Pentoga Road
It was gorgeous yesterday and the day before. Tomorrow's forecast to be a perfect fall day. Why does it have to rain today? Well, maybe it'll stop before Taylor and Nikki's 2 PM lakeside wedding.
We left for Iron Mountain on Friday shortly after my return from the daily morning walk.
First stop was to drop off a suit that Grandma Sargie had purchased for Grady to wear to today's wedding. The boy will look positively dapper.
Next came a quick drop off at Jeanne and Boyd's. As always, their yard, gardens, and home, all look like a page out of Better Homes and Gardens. Boyd gave me the tour of the grounds and it's impressive.
They have one big problem however.
Deer.
The four legged hoofed rats are everywhere and living in town, especially in the area where people actually feed them, all their flowers and garden beds are behind fences. The deer have even been known to walk up on the cement stoop under their porch and eat greenery just inches from the front door.
After our visit, it was on to Holly and Ross's for another delivery for today's wedding. Their yard looks beautiful and I hope it quits raining so the ceremony can be held by the lake.
Ross is modeling the deck were Nikki and Taylor are to be married. |
We're keeping our fingers crossed the weather cooperates. If not, the ceremony will be moved to the venue that will host tonight's reception, wedding dinner, and dance.
It was mid afternoon before Sargie and I arrived home on Pentoga Road.
Sargie had ordered a dress for the wedding quite some time ago and tracking its progress, has become increasingly despondent that the delivery time was being delayed. The last notice she received was that it would finally arrive in today's mail, too late for the wedding.
Looking at the progress online yesterday afternoon, she saw where it was sitting at the post office in Crystal Falls. My bride's hope rose as she called and was told if she hurried, they would have the package ready and she could pick it up before closing time.
Sargie was off like a flash.
To make a long story with a happy ending short, she got the package, tried the dress on and found it fit perfectly. She looked absolutely beautiful.
I finished insulating another section of a wall in the garden house late Friday afternoon. It's coming, slowly but surely. I also worked for over an hour on the Lord's Prayer and have another section of that almost finished. In fact, with rain pouring down, I'm going to skip my usual morning walk and work in the shop for a couple of hours. It's dark, cold, and rainy, perfect conditions for turning on the heat, have music playing softly in the background, and sip coffee while doing some more sawing.
We'll depart shortly after noon today for Iron Mountain and a day's worth of festivities. No doubt, tomorrow's blog will be filled with pictures of the newly weds and the celebrations surrounding them.
Time to top off the coffee mug and head to the shop for a morning of R&R. I need all the rest I can get. After all, we're looking forward to boogie'ing the night away at the wedding dance. Neither of us will turn any heads with our carefully unscripted moves, but who cares? We'll sing with the music, twirl, laugh, and hold each other especially close on the slow dances.
Hey, I might even get wild and out of control and steal a kiss every now and then.
After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
