Our newest BFF's, Russ, Lauren, and Chase the Dog
July 11, 2020 - Saturday morning

Pentoga Road

I was working on the garden house Friday afternoon when I heard someone shout my name. Russ, Lauren, and Chase, up on vacation from downstate, are readers of the blog and were out for an afternoon stroll.

Always nice to make new friends.

Yesterday's early morning walk can only be described as refreshing. After two weeks of high temperatures and horrible humidity, the much cooler air and low humidity made for a wonderful walk. I wish it would stay just like this for the rest of the summer.

I walked a bit further than usual so I could remove a section of dead tree that had fallen out into the road.

If someone had come flying over the hill, they'd have been in for a big surprise.

Sargie, Rose, and I, had a nice afternoon drive. Rose wanted to see the old prison that shut down ten years ago. I thought I could find a faster way from town, but failed to turn on the right rural road, so we wandered around for a bit before finding the sprawling structure.

The rest of the day was spent working on the fascia of the garden house.

At Sargie's suggestion, a good one, I painted the pieces of leftover siding before nailing them overhead.

It went up fairly smoothly and the front underside was finished by late afternoon.

I'll continue work on that today until I run out of leftover siding. After, we'll make a trip to Iron Mountain to purchase what is needed for the rest, plus boards to finish the overhead trim. The end is in sight.

One of Sargie's favorite vegetables is beets. I picked the first of the season last night so she could enjoy them for supper.

Jambo has activities going on in Marquette these days so I told him that Sargie and I would mow his lawn so he wouldn't have to make a special trip.

It was fun, Sargie was on our mower while I used Jambo's.

At one point, I felt like a member of the huge combine crews that harvest wheat in Kansas as we mowed in perfect synchronicity.

I broke formation to mow around the garden and barn and naturally, after moving the garden hose from the yard by the house, I managed to mow over it where it entered the garden. Jambo will be getting a new hose and sprinkler.

I'm beginning to wonder where my brain and memory have gone. Sometimes, I swear, it's nonexistent.

I'm meeting Tim early this morning for our walk then want to complete as much of the fascia as possible today. The weather is perfect and I want to make as much hay as possiblie while the sun shines.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
