Happy Anniversary, Sargie
I love you
June 17, 2020 - Wednesday morning
51 degrees/clear skies/calm winds
Pentoga Road

Hard to believe it was just three years ago that Mom was with us for a couple of weeks and we were throwing her a surprise 90th birthday party. Our sons were present along with fifty Milligan family and friends.

Yooper Brother Mark officiated the short ceremony by the garden just as people were getting ready to leave. We didn't want to steal any of the thunder from Mom's celebration.

Three years. Seems like it was yesterday.

Sigh.

Sargie says that we should ALWAYS keep our relationship "new," to not take each other for granted, and regardless of our age or how many years have passed, maintain that initial spark that burned so brightly the day we were married.

I agree. No man could love anyone as much as I love my Sargie.

The spark of true love is alive and well on Pentoga Road.

It's a quick entry this morning as we're going to Green Bay to celebrate our big day. Initially, I entertained thoughts of getting a hotel room and spicing things up a bit.

You know, keep it fresh.

Sargie thinks stops at Costco, Sam's Club, Aldies, Fleet Farm, Harbor Freight, and of course, a quick jaunt through TJ Max, strolling up and down the aisles hand in hand, is fresh enough .

My life story.

I returned home from my walk Tuesday morning and headed directly to the garden. It was the first time since planting that I actually took the time to garden, to stroll among the raised beds, pull weeds, transplant, fertilize, and otherwise enjoy and appreciate what's growing.

I think I discovered where many of my larger seeds have gone. I was weeding one bed when I stumbled into a series of mouse runs, tunnels running beneath the soil.

That's a first for me. I played commando, eliminating the tunnels and the mice.

Some things are doing better than others this gardening season. The tomatoes and peppers are thriving along with the root crops like beets, carrots and even the second planting of rutabagas are coming along.

The pumpkins and squash are about two weeks behind due to the cold/hot weather. Many seeds didn't sprout and having to replant, we may not get a crop. It all depends when the first frost arrives.

We traveled to Iron Mountain to purchase three more sheets of siding for the garden house. A quick stop by Ross and Holly's found them doing well. It was good to catch up on the latest news in their world.

Back home, I hopped on the rider and mowed the grass in the front meadow. For one reason or the other, it had gotten away from us and since she's convinced there are giant fire breathing snakes, let alone lions, tigers, and bears, oh my, that dwell in five inch tall grass, I told Sargie I'd go ahead and mow. It's now shorn and ready for her to assume her position as Superintendent of Lawns and Everything Pretty.

We went fishing last night and I'm happy to report that the Crappy Queen is alive and well.

We hadn't been on the water more than three minutes before Sargie hauled in her first crappy of the year.

For an encore, she also caught a nice largemouth bass. The girl still has the touch.

Unfortunately, this time of the year, spawning season, brings many people from out of state. They take advantage of the easy pickings when a fish is most vulnerable and will hit any lure or worm that crosses its nest. Anglers were everywhere and we purposely skipped our usual fishing holes as there were multiple boats surrounding us.

Sargie and I, both, agree that we'll forgo any fishing for another couple of weeks until spawning season is over and the out of state people go back home.

It's time to wrap this up as we'll be heading to Title Town in a bit. Though there may not be a hotel room in our future, a nice celebratory meal is definitely on the agenda.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...

The Crappie Queen was kind and let me catch a couple of fish Tuesday evening.
