Sargie O'Milligan and the rest of us celebrated St. Patty's Day by eating corned beef, cabbage, carrots, and potatoes, not an easy find in Brownsville, Texas!
March 17, 2020 - St Patrick's Day
74 degrees/clear skies/breezy
Brownsville, Texas

We'll be up around 3 AM Wednesday morning to catch our flight to Laurel, via Dallas/Ft. Worth, so I'm writing a quick one tonight. It's bedtime, but I wanted to get this written and uploaded first.

We did, indeed, celebrate this special Irish day in style. Sheri began the activities this morning by donning her St. Pat's Day glasses.

We wanted to eat corned beef and cabbage for dinner. As mentioned above, that's not a simple find in a town that celebrates a Hispanic culture.

A quick Google search led us to Shananigan's, an Irish Pub and Grill on the north side of town.

We had a meal fit for the... Irish. The corned beef, three full slices of it, along with taters, carrots, and cabbage, was absolutely delicious. Who'd have thought?

The rest of the day was spent fiddling around town, sitting in the hot tub, and seeing even more sights.

Downtown Brownsville

The border crossing is just a block or two from our condo.

We returned to our favorite authentic Mexican restaurant this evening for one final meal in Brownsville. I'm not sure what I had, but it was filled with beef and other goodies and was absolutely to-die-for. Oh, and there was a lot of it!

Yooper Brother Mark and I had one last soak in the hot tub this evening, a fitting way to end this phase of our vacation.

With any luck at all, we'll land in Laurel tomorrow before noon. With all this Corona Virus business, we're looking to head back to the UP and hunker down until it all blows over. Since schools and day care centers are closed in the state of Michigan, I imagine Hambone will be with us for the foreseeable future.  That's okay, he can help Jambo and I tap maple trees. It's that time of year.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Brownsville, Texas... y'all.

Our waitress was certainly perky!
