Mississippi Brother Garry and Miss Jody's grandson, Nolan "James" created this piece of art recently. Sixteen years old, James is one talented young man.

I'm in a bit of a rush this morning. Of all mornings to sleep in, my body decided this would be a good one to be lazy.  Yesterday, I popped out of bed at 4 AM. Today, I could have slept longer. I'm the Bobkitties' librarian today, one of my favorite jobs.

I was in the shop well before daybreak Sunday morning finishing the mother/child intarsia piece.

I'm already looking at new ideas to make for those new mommies in our lives.

I didn't like the snow that had fallen Saturday night. Sticking only to the coldest surfaces, it made everything beautiful. Unfortunately, we'll see more than our fair share of white stuff between now and next May.

Sargie and I spent most the day in the garden, working on spreading the remainder of the gravel that was in the trailer or reassembling the electric deer fence.

Mother Nature showed little mercy as it snowed/rained all day. That, coupled with the wind and cold temperatures, made for miserable conditions.

This is the first year that our standard sized Wolf River apple tree is producing. The variety is famous for producing huge winter pie apples and it appears our's is no different.

We'll be picking those in the near future to either dehydrate or for storage to use later this winter.

Sargie and I worked long and hard reassembling the deer fence. It now stretches out and around the garden house and completely encloses the garden, pond, and orchard.

I hope the deer that have pruned the orchard enjoy touching their noses to the 9,000 volts that flows through the five wires. I'd like to watch the first one that does!
I wish I had another month's worth of warm weather to make the area look nice. There's still a small shed to bring down from alongside the barn, accessories that are lying everywhere, and garden tools to put away before snow flies. It feels as though we were in the middle of everything before being forced to quit for the year.

Oh well, I can guarantee you that I'll be out there as soon as possible next spring, ready to continue.

We took Jambo's scaffolding apart and put it in his barn. It was sure handy to have while working on the garden house, especially while building the metal roof.

Thanks Jambo!

Sargie had put ribs in the oven on a slow bake Sunday morning and by late in the afternoon, she'd finished her kitchen magic. As usual, her ribs were falling-off-the-bone fantastic. Naturally, I didn't have the brains to just eat one or two, but went for seconds and was tempted to return for a third time.

Ribs, baked tater, sour cream, cottage cheese
Apple cake for desert... sigh
Just call me Tommy Tubby
Sargie has an appointment in Iron Mountain later today. I'll be the librarian at the elementary school, the only job on my schedule for this coming week. I could sign up to take a kindergarten job for three days, but I'm not overly tempted. The money would come in handy and the forecast is for lousy weather. Sargie works on Tuesday and Thursday.

Hmm, I could take it.

On the other hand, I don't feel like wrestling with a bunch of five year-old Bobkitties for three days straight.

It's called being retired.

OK, time to move along and get ready for school. I teach computer classes all morning and host library activities this afternoon.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...

One of this week's activities is to clean out the garden and put it to rest for the upcoming winter months.
