August 19, 2019 - Monday evening
67 degrees/clear skies/calm winds
Pentoga Road

I'm writing tonight as Sargie will be up and out of here early in the morning for the first day at her new job. She'll be driving to Norway, Michigan, for a day of training and getting to know the other staff before she permanently returns to the satellite clinic in Crystal Falls.

It'll be a big day for her.

I started Monday morning by robbing Jambo of a section of his scaffolding.

I wasn't sure what would be the best way to get the pieces home, but as usual, it was the old Ford tractor to the rescue.

Sargie and I made a quick dash to the lumber yard and of course, to pick up her Coke. After, I headed to the garden house while she mowed the yard and meadows.

It was an absolutely perfect day, warm enough to be warm, cool enough to be comfortable.

I finished putting the collar ties on the rafters. Though the plans called for only one tie for every three rafters, here in snow country, I'd rather err on the side of caution. Every rafter has a tie.

It was beautiful working up on top and looking down at the pond. I'm especially happy to see the natural gravel filters working so well. The 18,000 gallons are crystal clear.

The rest of the day was spent working on the rafters for the overhang on each side. One rafter is on with the west side to go.

Sargie and I, both, finished at the same time. She helped to move the scaffolding before we both called it a day.

Sargie has the lawn looking like a golf course.

I was hot and sweaty after a day of climbing on and off the scaffolding and ladders. It was time for a dip in the pond.

Fourteen goldfish and a whale
Though I couldn't talk her into joining me, Sargie kept me company while dipping her tootsies in the water.

Big garden news tonight. We'll be picking the first ripe tomatoes of the summer tomorrow. That means BLT's are on the horizon.

Sargie heads off to begin her new job first thing in the morning. I'll be heading out to the garden house and finish attaching the last rafter with all the braces. After, I'll begin on the facia boards and trim. Then it'll be plywood/roofing time.

Things, they are a movin'!
A manatee in the North Country?

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...

  1. *waves back at Sargie on mower* I'm hoping she will think of me when she has her Coke in the future. She knows I love it too. Ohhhhhh this post is shrouded in mystery-- whatever do I mean by "think of me when she....." I'm sure she'll figure it out.;) Love you both--from S. Stephenson Ave...... ♡
