Other than a daily raking of rocks, the pond is ready for the underlayment and liner.
July 10, 2019 - Wednesday evening
75 degrees/clear skies/calm winds
Pentoga Road

Once again, Carl the Weatherman lied. I heard thunder off to the north and a storm to the south.

There goes the rain that we were supposed to have
Nary a drop fell on Pentoga Road. Next chance is Friday afternoon. Yeah, I've heard that story before... and one before that... and before that, and so on and so on.

I worked on the pond a couple of hours early this morning before the day became warm. First thing was to shoot a laser sighting across to the south side.

Whoops, just a bit high
Almost two hours were spent making the edge of the terraces more rounded. Since I've cleaned so much dirt, I used the scoop shovel as a dust pan and let the dirt and rocks fall into that.

More time was spent on the backhoe and tractor, doing some landscaping and working on the height of the pond.

I walked away two hours later, ready to order what is needed for the next step. It's time.

The strawberries hadn't been picked for a couple of days.

We'd have a bumper crop if only it would rain. As it is, there are enough berries to eat fresh with some to give away.

The hottest part of the day was spent in the shop where the temperature seldom rises over 70 degrees. I ordered one hundred sand bags, sans sand, and a hundred feet of four inch perforated flexible pipe that will carry water through the gravel/sand filter in the pond.

That's when it hit me. This thing is really going to happen and there's no going back now. One way or the other, there's going to be a significant pond separating the garden from the orchard. With the heavy digging completed, it should be sooner rather than later.

This evening was spent watering Sargie's flowers and the garden.

For completely ignoring the garden this year, it's one of the better ones I've had in the past few seasons. Everything was planted at least two weeks late, there was absolutely no thought put into the variety of plants or seeds, and basically, everything was thrown at the ground then forgotten for the pond.

Thursday begins with an early morning visit to the dentist to get my tooth cleaned. After, I'll return to the pond and continue raking rocks and landscaping around the perimeter.

Sometime during the day, I'm planning to pull the trigger and purchase the underlayment and pond liner.

It's also a banner year for the grapes growing up each side of the garden gate.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...

This marble was uncovered several days ago while digging. I'd love to know its history and how it came to be buried several feet deep in the garden.
