Graham and Cody Brown celebrating Independence Day |
77 degrees/clear skies/calm winds
Pentoga Road
Dr. Katie sent a picture of the boys earlier saying they wished us a happy Fourth of July. I'm guessing, but I bet it was taken while waiting for the Independence Day Parade in Iron Mountain.
Today began by walking to Pentoga Village and back.
Indian Paintbrush |
Other than a quick drive to town, I spent the entire day working on the pond.
My goal was to fill in the ramp that had previously gone to the bottom.
It took several hours to move the dirt on top with the tractor. After, the backhoe was used to begin forming the upper terraces along one side.
Sargie was just as busy mowing the lawns, meadows, and trails.
Dusty? Boy, was it ever dusty. Wanting to wear sandals, Sargie slid a pair of disposable gloves on her tootsies to keep the dirt from under her toenails.
No doubt, you're aware that he who laughs last, laughs best.
I rest my case.
Sargie watered her flowers late this afternoon. Despite the dry conditions both the annuals and perennials are looking good.
Japanese Iris and hostas |
Having just climbed off the tractor, I drove to the lake at the end of the road and went for a quick swim. The water was cool, certainly not cold, and felt wonderful.
A random strawberry plant growing in the orchard |
I think I'll pull the trailer to Yooper Mark's plant first thing Saturday morning and fill it with wood.
Otherwise, it'll be back to working on the pond. I hope to have the terraces formed in the next couple of days so it can be measured for the underlayment and liner.
Double ruffled peonies growing in the garden |
After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
You can see the size and depth of the pond by comparing it to the backhoe on the other side. |
