Guess what I did Saturday afternoon? |
-23 degrees/sunny/calm winds
Pentoga Road
If you haven't already, be sure to scroll down past this entry to see pictures of Sasha's shower that was held in Foster City yesterday. Sargie took some nice photos and I've been asked by several to post any that come my way. Though men, at least those I hang around with, don't really understand the fascination of baby showers, it appears the ladies had a good time.
Meanwhile, I went for my five mile walk once Sargie left for Foster City. The sun was bright and though it was somewhat windy, the day was beautiful.
There's a forty acre lot about a mile from the house where the owner(s) have parked two or three nice campers, really nice. Only problem is, they are liable to lose one or more if someone doesn't clear the heavy snow and ice from their roofs. Camping trailers aren't known to be the strongest structures in the world.
I feel kind of bad for them. I'm fairly certain they are not from around here and appear to visit the UP during the warm season. It's not been uncommon in years past to drive by in the summer months and see a camp fire between the trailers and people having a good time.
I spent the rest of Saturday morning in the shop and am almost finished carving and shaping the bulldog pup.
There's about ten minutes worth of sanding remaining on the little gal before I begin applying a variety of colored washes. I think I'll use a combination of tan, white, and black in an attempt to bring her to life.
There's so much intricate sanding done by hand that my shop apron often collects an inch or more of sawdust before I brush it off. |
The entire afternoon was spent working on the south side of the barn roof.
Using the roof rake from ground level was like trying to break up concrete with a plastic hammer. The snow was simply too hard.
In the end, I brought out the extension ladder and with one foot remaining on a rung, I used the shovel, reaching up as far as I could.
More than half the snow was removed. As Mississippi Garry and I, both, are known to say, "Good 'nuff."
Several loads of laundry were washed, dried, and folded or hung yesterday. I would work on the barn roof, then come in and play domestic househusband for a bit, then zip back out the door. That scenario was repeated several times throughout the afternoon.
My constant shadow, Chief, tried to help. |
Sargie works at noon today. I'll go for my walk then decide after if I'm heating the shop. It's so cold and would take so long that it may not be worth my while.
I'll ask Chief what he thinks. I'm sure he'll suggest that we simply play in the snow.
Obviously, the pup doesn't understand that there are barges to tote, bales to lift, and Sunday afternoon naps to take.
After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
Don't forget to scroll down to see pictures of the shower.
