We just arrived home from a family gathering at Sargie's younger brother's and his wife's home. Steve and Bonnie live a bit over an hour from here and they decided to have a semi impromptu party for the family.

Saturday was a mixed bag of action. I began the morning with a senior moment. Sargie had cleaned a cabinet the other day and gotten out a set of old coasters. Spread out on the counter top, they look very similar to cookies.

After pouring a cup of coffee early this morning, I was standing at the sink daydreaming when I absentmindedly picked a coaster up and almost took a bite out of it. I usually have a cookie every morning to help my pills go down, but I've never attempted to eat a coaster.

Talk about feeling like a fool. Though Sargie was in the shower, I still looked all around until I was sure no one was hiding and taking pictures.

I went for my usual morning stroll. A company donates twenty five cents to St. Jude's Hospital for every mile I walk. I've been averaging five miles which equals $1.25 a day.

Just in after this morning/s walk
Back home, I built a fire in the outdoor wood furnace and came inside for coffee while the shop was warming. It didn't take too long to become comfortable enough to work, about half an hour.

I prepared a piece of hickory with which to make a new scroll saw piece. The rest of the day was spent carving the owl and/or the pig.

Thank goodness for the Dremel and various bits.

I kept trimming and sanding, put the thing down then picked it up and worked a bit more. There's still much more to do on the owl, but it's coming.

The rest of the day was spent on the pig. I used the DeWalt multi tool that Sargie gave me as a Christmas present to trim some of the tighter places where a saw or sander wouldn't fit.

By afternoon's end, the pig had begun to get a few details, his face, the hooves, etc.

I left around 3 this afternoon for Iron Mountain so I could pick up Sargie and we could ride together onto the party in Vulcan.

Lincoln with his daddy, Garth
It was a wonderful party filled with plenty of good food. The way I feel tonight, I may never eat again. We stayed for a couple of hours and came home with one more person than we went with. Hambone!

He'll be with us until Daddy and Mommy come over to get him on Sunday.

Speaking of Sunday, I have no plans. Sargie's off so we'll be playing with Grady. No doubt, I'll head out to the shop and who knows, I might even fit in a Sunday afternoon nap.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga...
