Sleighbells ring, are ya' listenin'?
November 4, 2018 - Sunday evening
38 degrees/rain/windy
Pentoga Road

Today's been about as miserable weather-wise as I've seen in quite a while. The day began with rain showers and turned to snow as the morning wore on.

With Sargie sleeping in a bit, I decided to fire up the new (to me) wood furnace. Admittedly, I was a bit apprehensive. Was the flue tall enough to draw? Would the furnace fan work? Was the thermostat accurate?

I started the fire and waited for the fire box to get hot enough for the automatic fan to start.

You know the old saying, "A watched pot never boils." Neither, does a furnace fan.

I was in the shop when I heard the fan start. Suddenly, hot air began to flow through the duct into the shop. I was so excited that I ran into the house, sprinted up the stairs two at a time, and shared the news with Sargie. I'm not sure she was nearly as excited as I was.

This whole wood furnace installation has been an experiment, made up as I've gone along. Some days are diamonds, some days are coal. Today, at least in the HVAC department, was a diamond.

The rest of the morning was spent running ductwork along the far wall.

One hot air outlet is in the rear by the lathe, the other is under the small folding table directly across from my recliner.

With all the benches and tools pulled away from the wall, I cleaned and swept, then decided to rearrange the power tools, mostly those that make the most dust.

Right now, I have the lathe, saws, jointer, and planer at the far end of the shop. The only exception is the scroll saw, but it has an excellent dust collector. It's my hope that most of the sawdust will stay away from the desk, the paint area, and my easy chair.

The arrangement of the shop is still a work in progress. Hopefully, the equipment will include an air filter some day.

Sargie and I slipped and slid into town this afternoon for her Coke. Forgoing our usual drive, we slid back home in much the same manner.

Sargie closes the Vision Center Monday night. I'll be at Florence Elementary School bright and early for the next two mornings and fill in for the librarian.

On the agenda this week: teach for two days then head to the shop and begin making presents for the upcoming holiday. It's going to be a busy week.

After all, a man's work is never done.
