It's just around the corner! |
October 9, 2018 - Tuesday
54 degrees/rain/calm winds
Pentoga Road
If the rain continues, we'll be recording our totals in feet rather than inches. The rain gauge is showing that two more inches have fallen in the past twenty four hours.
The forecast for today and tomorrow? More rain. There are flash flood watches/warnings out for much of the Upper Peninsula.
Monday began by canning the last of this summer's garden goodies, hot peppers.

Monday began by canning the last of this summer's garden goodies, hot peppers.
I'd picked the dozen plants clean last week before our first hard freeze of the year and though I really didn't need to pickle any more, it was either that or let them go to waste. The second choice wasn't an option.
I learned my lesson years ago after slicing hot peppers without gloves. I spent the rest of the day with both hands stuck in a pan of ice cubes. |
Yesterday's effort produced two and a half more. I should have more than enough to enjoy spicy omelets, chili, and other culinary goodies this coming year.
The rain continued to pound down. It was time to sprint to the shop where I spent the rest of the day.
The four freed rings on the goblet made it look trashy, like someone had a bunch of wooden rings and didn't know what to do with them, so he just piled them on top of each other. Certainly, they took away from the goblet.
There was nothing to do but cut them away. I'm glad I did.
With the finish dry, I'll separate the goblet this morning, complete the bottom, and it will be ready.
I also made two carved names before day's end. The sun had set before I left the shop.
What to have for supper? Sargie wouldn't be home until well past nine. Hmm, I dug in the freezer and found CHICKEN GIZZARDS!
By the way, Sargie had a leftover brat patty after arriving home. Chicken gizzards aren't very high on her list of favorite foods.
Sargie's off today and we'll be driving to Iron Mountain to pick up Hambone from preschool. Meanwhile, I'm going to head back out to the shop and put the finishing touches on the goblet before we leave.
After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
