I heard rumors that Yooper Brother Mark is thinking of renting out their home as a hunting camp.

I can almost promise that Mark will spend hours sitting in a hunting blind next month and not see a buck as large as the one above standing in his yard. It's a dandy.

I almost made the ultimate mistake this morning. For the past two weeks I've thought that I was supposed to teach English at Florence High School tomorrow. This morning I was waiting for Sargie so we could eat breakfast when I randomly looked at the master substitute webpage. It was then I almost had a heart attack.

I was scheduled to work today.

Entering downtown Florence at sunrise
It was 7 AM and I was to be in Florence at 7:30. I sprinted from the couch, changed from my barn clothes into teaching attire in under two minutes, kissed Sargie goodbye, and sprinted out the door.

I needn't have worried. I arrived at the high school in plenty of time and proceeded to have a wonderful day teaching English.

It's been many years since I dabbled in conjunctions, run on sentences, and dangling participles. Two classes dealt in literature and were conducted by another teacher. She was good, darn good, and I learned a thing or two by observing her.

As I always told my student teachers and interns, regardless of experience, it's never too late to learn.

My classes were good, the students extremely polite and willing to learn, and the day flew by.

It was late afternoon before I arrived home. Sargie would be finished shortly after 5 and since I had a head start, I started dinner.

We tried a one of this year's winter squash, a new variety.

It was just okay, not our favorite by any means. I'll plant other new varieties next year in my never ending search for the perfect winter squash.

I'll be riding over to Iron Mountain tomorrow morning with Sargie to get the Blazer. The first item on the agenda back home will be to clean the flue of the living room wood stove. After that will come installing the metal roof on the lean to. Leaves need to be blown and the lawn needs mowing one last time before the mower is put away for the winter.

Seems the list just goes on and on.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
