The Calendula's are in full bloom
August 7, 2018 - Tuesday
59 degrees/cloudy skies/calm winds
Pentoga Road

It's a short one this morning as our newest superstar, American Ninja Warrior Hambone, is up and going strong. It's a test of my mental fortitude to concentrate while my super shadow is beside me saying, "Pawpaw...." and then rattles off a long string of questions or four year-old thoughts.

I rode back to Iron Mountain on Monday with Sargie to retrieve the Blazer. Before coming home, I went to Home Depot and found some cull lumber, boards that were warped or damaged and purchased eight 1x4's for $3. They are perfect to use when making smaller projects.

The day was perfect so I strapped on my hikers and walked to Pentoga Village and back.

Seems every time I walk, there are new wild flowers displaying their colors.

Coupled with the occasional red leaf, my walks are becoming more colorful each day as we head towards fall.

The remainder of the day was spent fiddling around the place, not doing much of anything, really. I weeded here, put a few things away there, and naturally, time was spent in the shop.

The mouse has me perplexed. Seems I can trap and keep them out of the house, but making them is another story. I tried again on Monday.

It's not easy going through life being mouse and Easter bunny challenged. It's said that practice makes perfect, but I'm not sure there's a lot of hope for me.

Hambone and Grandma Sargie walked through the door later in the evening. It wasn't long before Grady discovered the new loom sitting on the dining room table.

We found something that occupies the boy's total attention that doesn't beep, plug in, flash, communicate, or tell a story. He spent the night learning how to make a good old-fashioned hot pad.

Under Pawpaw and Grandma Sargie's guidance, Hambone is finishing his first masterpiece this morning.

We also watched one of Grady's (and our's) favorite television shows, American Ninja Warrior. His new name? American Ninja Hambone! When he's not making potholders, he can be swinging from tree to tree out in the woods.

Today? I'm scheduled to get a shingles vaccination later this afternoon. Until then, there are potholders to make, mice to perfect, and trees to swing from.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...

You can't beat a good old-fashioned bedtime story while Grandma Sargie's getting ready for bed. After, Grady shuffled off to Grandma Hedy's bed for the night.
