American Ninja Hambone - The Kayak King |
50 degrees/clear skies/calm winds
Pentoga Road
It's nippy in the house this morning. The sun has yet to rise and after leaving several windows open last night, the inside temperature isn't much warmer than on the other side of the walls. Oh well, with a high of 87 forecast for later today, it won't take long to warm up.
Saturday was one of those giddy up and ride 'em days. Put it this way, there weren't many dull moments.
First we started with a Flash vs PawPaw the Claw match in the dining room.
Personally, I think the Claw won this bout, but I'm sure the Flash would tell of a different outcome. |
I needed to clean a fan that's been in the storage unit and will be used in our bedroom. A bucket of water, along with an air nozzle connected to the compressor, was used.
Never far away, Grady wanted to help, but I soon discovered that cleaning wasn't what he had in mind.
He quickly learned that shoving the nozzle into the water produced some the biggest soap suds in the world.
The Claw definitely came out on the short end of the stick this time.
Who knew Pawpaw had such fun toys hidden away in the barn?
Since both of us were wet, I decided to use the high pressure washer and clean three of our eight kayaks in preparation for an afternoon on the lake.
We made a quick trip to town while they were drying and stopped by the park.
Back home, Grandma Sargie helped and we loaded the kayaks onto the boat. It was time to head to the lake.
It was Grady's first solo kayak adventure and he did well. I attached a line from mine to his just to make certain he didn't get too wild on his maiden voyage.
Grandma Sargie was always paddling nearby, ready to help if needed.
Oh oh... we were at the furthest possible place when Grady said he had to go potty.
It's hard to pull up your own trunks while wearing a bulky life vest.
"Grandma Sargie, can you help me, please?"
With drawers pulled up, Hambone volunteered to help load the kayaks. I'd earlier told him that if a man's big enough to use a kayak, then he's big enough to help load one.
With the work completed, the real fun began. It was time to go swimming!
We swam for well over an hour and everyone knows that boat ramp swimming is the best kind. Grandma Sargie watched and supervised.

Wearing a Spider Man shirt, Batman shorts, and sporting the title of Hambone Ninja Warrior, he quickly tamed the park's wild elephant. |

"Can't you hold it?" I asked.
"I really really really have to go bad, Pawpaw," he replied.
There was no place to put into shore and after making an miserable attempt at getting out of my kayak in three feet of water, we paddled back to the boat landing.
I quickly stepped into the shallow water and ran to Hambone's kayak to lift him out. The Ninja Warrior sprinted to the closest land and...
"Grandma Sargie, can you help me, please?"
Just a note: These pictures will appear at a much later date, an opportune time such as Hambone's wedding rehearsal dinner. |

Bedtime came early on Pentoga Road last night. In fact, Grady's still sound asleep.
All good things come to and end and we have to deliver Hambone to his mama and daddy's later this morning. Seems he's heading down to Milwaukee this afternoon with Mel's family. There's no grass growing under that boy's feet.
Grandma Sargie and I have a couple of errands to run while we're in Iron Mountain. Otherwise, it should be a quiet day.
I'm going to irrigate the garden later and no doubt, Sargie has several of her own projects in mind.
Note the legs propped up outside the kayak? It's obvious Grandma Sargie was poised and ready for action at a moment's notice. |
After all, a man's work and that of his bride's, is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
