A honeysuckle bush in full bloom

June 7, 2018 - Thursday
55 degrees/clear skies/calm winds
Pentoga Road

I have to apologize for the big smudge in the middle of many of today's pictures. I knew it was there and simply forgot to wipe the lens clean yesterday. Oh well, just pretend it's clean and the pictures are crystal clear.

Hambone is here on the couch with me this morning, leaning on my arm, watching cartoons as I write. The boy must have some of my genes as he was up early when he heard Pawpaw wandering around.

We've already had our early morning cookie that makes big super hero arms. Breakfast will come after while once Grandma Sargie wakes up.

Yesterday was sure a mixed bag of weather. The day began with clear skies and I enjoyed a five mile stroll around our country block.

The wildlife was out in spades and kept me busy taking one picture after another.

Once home, Neighbor Mike came down to borrow the two wheeled trimmer. He has his camp looking like a city park and ready for the coming summer.

While here, Mike helped me set up the planer.

Mike owns the planer, but lacking a place to keep it, I agreed to provide a home for it in my shop. I have several hickory boards that Yooper Brother Mark brought from their plant in Kentucky that needed some work so I might laminate several from which to turn a bowl.

This is cherry and hickory glued together to provide a bowl that should have some interesting colors and grain.

Yooper Brother Mark had texted saying the trailer was filled with firewood. I loaded six barrels into the Blazer so I could fill those before hooking onto the trailer.

Mark is always giving me a rough time, saying I NEVER stop to visit when I'm in town. I walked into the office yesterday and this is who I found sitting behind the Vice President's desk.

Uh huh. I quickly discovered what I thought all along, that his assistant, Ann, really does all the the real work.

I drove home in a driving rain and returned to the shop where another row of letters were cut for the sign using the scroll saw.

Another couple of hours should see the rest sawed and it will be time to begin the mounting process.

I was asked to manufacture some trim to replace that that had become very old and brittle.

The oscillating sander that Sargie gave me for Christmas really came in handy yesterday!

I noticed something while selecting a board from which to cut. We live in an area surrounded by  lumbering and sawmill businesses, two of our biggest industries. Yet, look where this board is from.

It's no wonder America is in the mess it's in. I have nothing against Sweden, but what's wrong with supporting our own local industries and buying American? I'm sure those I know personally in the wood products industry would appreciate the business.

Typical.

It was damp and chilly last night. Who'd have thought a week ago when it was 96 degrees that I'd have to start a fire to take the chill off the house.

It didn't take much or burn for long, but the cozy heat felt good last evening.

Grandma Sargie and Hambone came traipsing in last evening. It appears The Flash (as he's currently referring to himself) will be with us for a couple of days. I like that.

Sargie's off Thursday and Friday and it appears that there's a Happy Meal picnic at the park on the agenda for later today.

First, Ol' Pawpaw and Hambone are going to have some breakfast, then head out and begin working up wood. My munchkin partner already said he'd be Button Boy and push the lever needed to make the electronic splitter work.

After all, a man's and boy's work are never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road....

The last two tomato cages were placed around the plants last night. It's easier to do it while they are small.
