With the wall removed, I could finally see the entire length of what the new shop will be.
April 22, 2018 - Sunday evening
50 degrees/clear skies/calm winds
Pentoga Road

I was eager to get out to the barn this morning as my goal was to finish removing the wall of the shop.

As much time was spent rerouting the electricity as actually moving the wall.

The wires had to be disconnected so they could be run through new holes in the studs, then reconnected. It all takes time.

It was early afternoon before we took our drive. We enjoyed chicken strips, ham, and Coke, as we drove around the countryside enjoying the beautiful day.

Sargie spent the rest of the afternoon cleaning the windows and mirrors in the house.

She recently got a new gismo, one that puts cleaner on the glass, then sucks it up through the squeegee. Sargie claims it's an amazing piece of technology. Certainly we have sparkling glass throughout our home!

I constructed the back wall of the new addition late this afternoon.

It all went well until it was set in it's permanent place and secured. Seems there's a hump in the floor due to a frost heave.

I'm unsure what to do next. Usually frost heaves appear in the same place year after year meaning the wall will go up and down on an annual basis.

Since there will be little stress on the wall, I think I'll cut out part of the bottom of the middle three studs to relieve the pressure and will allow the top and bottom plates to be level. I'll box the bottom of the studs much like one would a window for support.

Sargie and I have had a quiet evening. She closes the Vision Center on Monday then will be bringing Grady back home with her. Niece Marley has a program at her school Tuesday afternoon, so we'll be taking Hambone to watch his cousin perform.

I'll go for my walk in the morning then return to the barn and continue work. Since the floor isn't level nor the barn square, it could be a slow go.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...

  2. Since the window only looks out onto the dark storage shed I built behind the barn, I decided to cover it over. I left the other window and it's been nothing but a pain. No circulation, very little light, bleeds cold air, etc. I hope I'm not sorry. If so, you'll see me changing my mind and making room for the window! Thanks!
