Super hero - The Flash
April 20, 2018 - Friday evening
47 degrees/clear skies/calm winds
Pentoga Road

I thought I'd write this evening as Sargie opens Saturday morning and I'll ride a few miles down the road with her so I can walk back.

Friday was a busy one. I was disappointed to find that my test group of plants had frozen in the greenhouse overnight. One bulb had burned out and the other had a short. With a low of fifteen degrees and no other supplemental heat, none of the plants made it.

I'll replace the bulbs tomorrow and try it again.

As a backup, I planted more tomato seeds today. Though they'll be late, we should get tomatoes from them later in the summer.

Hambone and I were together all day. With his assistance, I finished the third tier of the strawberry planter.

As soon as the snow melts and ground thaws, I'll be filling all three tiers of the strawberry planter with new top soil.
Why tiers? So the old guy who does the picking won't have to bend down quite so far.
Today brought Grady's first lesson using a hammer.

He spent more than two hours pounding one nail into a board.

Pawpaw wasn't very smart. Who in their right mind would hold a nail while a three-year-old is learning how to use a hammer?
I'd purchased eight solar lights in a kit while in Iron Mountain yesterday. As with the strawberry planter, my shadow was there to assist.

After showing him how to assemble the first light, he did the next seven all by himself without any help.

With Sargie and Hambone's assistance, I began cleaning the area in the barn where the shop addition will extend.

All the shelves had to be emptied and equipment carried to the other side of the barn. In the end, if someone would have offered me a buck-twenty-five for the whole mess, I'd have happily helped them carry it out.

Grady enjoyed playing ABOVE the water this afternoon. I taught him what a siphon and hand pump does and he entertained himself recirculating the water in the puddle.

We met Macrea and Mel halfway to Iron Mountain tonight for the Hambone exchange. It's been a very quiet and relaxing evening since.

Sargie opens bright and early in the morning. I'll go for my usual walk then continue working on the area where the shop will be expanded. My goal is to have the addition completed in the next week to ten days.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
