Look who stopped by Pentoga Road on Wednesday!
It's Ross
November 9, 2017 - Thursday
20 degrees/snowy/windy
Pentoga Road

Started on Wednesday evening:

Sargie had to close tonight, so I thought I'd start writing while I'm waiting. I hate that she has to drive almost forty miles through the deep, dark, north woods so late in the evening, but my girl's a trooper.

Tired of worrying, especially during the winter months, we installed a tracking program on both our cell phones. She calls as she's leaving Iron Mountain and I'm able to see her progress as she drives home. The same goes when I drive or hike. Sargie can always see my location. It works well for both of us and eliminates a lot of worry. It also allows me to know when to begin preparing supper so it's ready when she walks in the door.

It's cold. I'm now doubly convinced that summer is over, especially since Thursday night's low is projected to dip to five above zero. I think I'll bring in the rutabagas tomorrow and store them down the basement. I believe the growing season is over.

Brother-in-law, Ross, arrived mid morning on Wednesday. It was good to see my friend and we enjoyed sipping coffee and catching up. Later, we drove to town where Yooper Brother Mark gave us a tour of his plant.

As many times as I've been in Mark's facility, I learned a lot listening to him explain the workings and production process to Ross.

We later bade Mark goodbye and made our way to the Paint River Landing where we inhaled hamburgers with all the fixings.

Back home, Ross and I enjoyed one last cup of coffee and conversation until he said he wanted to get home before dark. It had been a great day.

I was talking with Andy Tuesday afternoon and he was saying that he'd just finished erecting a portable garage.

In the middle of a sentence, he paused, then said, "OH &%^$!!"

I asked what the problem was. He informed me that it was windy and his garage went flying by a window as we spoke. Breaking loose from its moorings, it acted like a giant parachute.

There's a happy ending to the garage story. Andy sent me a picture today of his garage, retrieved, fully assembled, and firmly anchored in place.

Wednesday was a good day of hunting for Luke. He bagged this 9 point, 175 lb buck, not far from his house.

Luke's only complaint was that he had to drag the buck over a quarter of a mile up hill in the dark. I'm proud of that boy. He put some serious meat on the table.

Another picture that came my way was from Sarah, Isabella's mommy.

I'm guessing that Isabella must be feeling better after a bout with the croup.

Sargie just walked in the door. It's time to end, at least for tonight.

What's on the agenda for Thursday? Since it's Sargie's only day off, I'll let her call the shots. Otherwise, I'll be in the shop.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...

Miss Jody was digging in one of her flower pots and felt something solid. Attached to a vine under the soil was a big ol' sweet potato. I think we'll change Jody's name to Miss Tater.
