Just one of many area lakes that are completely covered with ice.

I headed to the shop as soon as Sargie left for a funeral Thursday morning and was soon reminded of the quote that goes something like..."The road to hell is paved with the best intentions."

The first difficulty encountered was a broken bandsaw blade.

Granted, it should have been changed a year ago, maybe two or three. It's cut and ripped more raw lumber than most chain saws.

Switching gears, I began using a small barrel sander on the Dremel to carve the feet of the turkey.

I was almost finished when the sanding barrel fell apart. I put on a new one only to have it spin into pieces a few minutes later. Thankfully, I finished both feet before I ran out of barrels.

It was only after I finished that I remembered I'd purchased a fistful of generic barrels a couple of years ago for a small percentage of what the name brand cost. It's true, one gets what he pays for. I certainly did.

I finally got a bit of painting accomplished on the turkey. The feet and legs came first.

Then came the red cape on the body and the beginning of the eyes.

The last turkey chore of the day was cutting out and carving the wings.

It was early afternoon when Sargie and Macrea arrived following the funeral. We enjoyed leftover potato soup and biscuits before Macrea left to visit his branch bank in Iron River. As a vice president of Wells Fargo, he supervises several.

Sargie and I had a nice drive Thursday afternoon and made several stops, the first to purchase a new bandsaw blade.

It's amazing how fast winter weather is beginning to settle in. Carl the Weatherman said we're averaging six degrees below daily normal so far this month. Darn global warming anyway.

Last night was a mellow affair talking, watching tv and simply enjoying each other's company.

In the deer hunting category, someone in Neighbor Mike's party shot a small one yesterday. Mike said it's an "eater," but certainly no trophy. So far, it appears the take, around here anyway, has been slow. There are does and fawns everywhere, but large bucks seem to be few and far between.

Sargie opens this morning. I'll go for my usual walk then it's back to the shop.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
