The fog lifting from Pentoga Road early Friday morning |

Pentoga Road
It appears the monsoon season that plagued us this past summer has returned. Heavy rain began to fall last night and is to continue today. At least we won't have to worry about the well running dry anytime soon.
Friday morning was as near perfect as possible. I stopped several times to take pictures along my three mile walk and wished more than once that I had the Nikon SLR digital camera so I could have taken some more serious photos.
I've received several pictures from Yooper Brother Mark in the past couple of days. They surprised Sarah, Isabella, and Curtis, by flying to Wyoming for a short visit and to help celebrate Isabella's third birthday.
I sent an Auntie Sargie/Uncle Tom pumpkin out with the folks so Isabella could have a little part of us on her special day.
Mark and Sheri are due to fly back early next week.
I about overdid it Friday. I returned from my walk determined to finish working up the wood pile... and I did, although it about did me in.
Any wood exposed to moisture grew some beautiful fungus |
I was going great guns when suddenly, the tank ran out of gas. My legs felt heavy, my back hurt, and I wanted to quit.
That wasn't an option.
It was noon before I could call the job finished. Not only was the wood stacked in the shed, the area was raked and all the birch bark taken to the burn pile.
There are many who won't burn birch because of the bark and mess it creates. Not a hard wood, although harder than the soft varieties, it's not my favorite to use for heat, but this was given to me and as someone once said, never look free firewood in the trunk... or something like that.
After a quick trip to town to deliver the last pumpkin to the post office, I returned home for a late lunch and quick nap. An hour later, I felt like new.
The afternoon was spent in the shop, remaking one pumpkin head and painting both.
I hope to turn and paint a couple more this weekend then take them to the consignment shop in Crystal Falls. I think the one I make later this morning will be a bowl with a lid, using the hat for a handle. I'm getting bored just turning simple balls from pine. It's time to put some spice in my Halloween turning life.
I took some more pictures on Thursday when Sargie and I went for our drive that I didn't have a chance to post yesterday. Thought I'd share them today.
Again, I wish I would have had my better quality camera rather than the small one I keep in my pocket.
It's about time to make a final harvest in the garden. It appears as though we have a decent crop of Delicata winter squash. They are quite small as I had to replant them after June's flood washed the seeds from the bed.
Sargie opens this morning. With the rain pouring down, I think the only walk I'll take is out to the shop where I'll turn up the heat, dial in some music, and have a date with a couple of pumpkin heads.
After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
