39 degrees/clear/calm winds
Pentoga Road
I can't quit yawning this morning and I'm not sure why as I slept like a rock last night. Guess it will remain one of life's unsolved mysteries.
Thursday came and went in a blur. I spent much of the morning in the shop turning and shaping two new pumpkin heads.
I made both with a base that I hope will be painted to look like a shirt or even pants. It's my plan to make four or five more over the next few days to put in the consignment store in Crystal Falls. I think I'll just rent a table and see if anything sells.
Letting the orange paint dry on the pumpkins, I moved outside and resumed working on the wood pile alongside the wood shed.
I thought maybe I'd finish Thursday afternoon, but that didn't happen. Hopefully today.
Though small, the electric wood splitter has paid for itself several times over. It sure is nice not to swing a 12 lb maul any longer. |
Sargie and I took off for our ride shortly after noon. Our first stop was at the post office where we mailed several Jack-o-lanterns.
Picking up Cokes and hot chicken nuggets, we headed west in search of fall leaves at their peak color. We found some!
Though our leaves aren't as far along, those just a few miles away are absolutely brilliant.
Last evening was a quiet one. We had tuna salad for supper and spent the evening watching television and relaxing.
Sargie opens today. I'm going for my walk then hope to work up the rest of the firewood. It's to begin raining tonight and pour through Saturday, so I'd like to get it finished and in the shed.
After that? I've got two pumpkins that need faces, more to turn, and a bluegill to finish on the scroll saw. Lord Almighty, if only you had my life.
After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
I made a quick trip through the garden late Thursday afternoon and see the Brussel's sprouts are ready. Somewhere between the wood, the pumpkins, and the bluegill, I'll blanch and freeze these. |
