43 degrees/clear skies/calm winds
Pentoga Road
The trees, the sky, the countryside, were all beautiful Monday morning. With the cold temperatures and clear skies, everything seemed surreal, almost animated.
I hiked four miles, stopping often to digitally record the beauty. I wished once again I'd have brought my good camera. The conditions were simply too perfect for my small pocket model to do justice, but it sufficed.
It was close to noon before the temperature rose above forty degrees. I'd earlier noticed a skim of ice on one of the fountains for the first time this fall.
One of this week's jobs will be to empty both fountains and store them away for the winter. The waterfalls and fountain in the garden pond will be kept flowing as long as possible as I don't want to bring the goldfish in any sooner than necessary.
Both sides of the garden were cleaned and tucked in for the winter. Gardening is officially done for the year.
The rest of the day was spent in the shop. I cut and spray painted the background for the bluegill scroll saw piece. After the paint dried, the piece was glued and the back clamped. It should be finished in the next day or two.
Next on the agenda was painting the faces on the pumpkin bowl that was turned last week. I painted a different one on opposite sides. Why? Because I could.
I had a lot of fun designing the front and back. Ah, it's just play, but who says an old retired guy can't have fun painting silly faces?
The internet tech arrived late in the afternoon and fiddled around on the roof. He says he'll have to bring a new radio to fix the problem. Honestly? I don't believe he has a clue what the problem is. I'm going to give him another couple of weeks and if it's not fixed after that, I'll begin exploring other options. I've been with this company a long time, but service and reliability have significantly gone downhill.
Sargie was home early last night and we enjoyed a nice, quiet, evening. She opens this morning and is off tomorrow. I heard through the grape vine that Hambone might be coming home with her tonight. Wednesday's to be a beautiful day, Hambone loves playing in the leaves, and leaves are something we have plenty of.
Sounds like a plan to me.
It's time to get this show on the road. I want to walk five miles this morning then get the bluegill finished. I've started another scroll saw piece that I hope to finish cutting out later this afternoon. It looks to be a busy day.
After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
