Not to be outdone in the Hummingbird Department, Miss Jody sent this video yesterday from their home in Laurel, Mississippi.

I've never seen so many hummingbirds in one place. Talking with Miss Jody yesterday afternoon, she said that presently, she is filling all four feeders twice daily.
My reply was that she needs to buy stock in C&H Sugar or better yet, purchase a sugar cane plantation. Thanks for the videos, Jody!!
It's cold this morning, just plain cold. When I tried to start the oil furnace, nothing happened. It appears there's a clog in the fuel oil tank or the oil has become gelled. I'll have to go to town today and purchase some additive. This happened last year and the fix was fairly simple. I'll be placing an order for fuel oil next month.
I received a couple of pictures yesterday. One was of Grady and his Uncle Cale at the Upper Peninsula State Fair.
From the back, they look so much alike that I can hardly tell them apart. Hambone loves his Uncle Cale and vice versa. They make a good team.
Thursday morning found me making a quick hike to the Brule River and back.
I enjoy walking a short distance into Wisconsin through the woods on the ATV trail. It's actually a state forest multi use road and is so beautiful.
I'm amazed how quickly summer (what little there was) has turned to fall. The leaves are turning red and the winter apples are quickly ripening.
I resisted temptation, but one of these days, I'm going to hop across that old field and pluck an apple or two from one of those trees. I'm unsure who owns the field, but the apples look absolutely delicious.
Back home, I spent some time in the garden, mostly walking around, looking, plucking a weed here and there. I harvested a few kohlrabi.
Sargie and I enjoy them best when they are sliced, much like one would a raw turnip. They are sweet and have a turnip/nutty flavor.
Much of the day was spent either on the backhoe or with rake in hand as I finished spreading the gravel on the north side of the barn.
That job can now be crossed off my list and gives us an additional place in which to park in the summer or push snow during the winter months. It also leads to the new path going to the shipping container.
I needed to go up to Neighbor Mike's and was amazed how well his hops vines are doing. Hops are the major ingredient in most American made beers.
I'm going to propose the boy go into the beer-making business and become a millionaire.
Hmm, Neighbor Mike's Pentoga Brewery... we could give the new Alpha Brewery a bit of competition.
Naw, that's not going to happen.
I worked into the evening hauling goodies to the storage container. Shelves were installed and treasures much too numerous and valuable to mention were stored.
My proudest moments were when I made hooks so that the smaller items might be hung out of the way, especially the two sets of rummage sale golf clubs that were prized the world over... fifty years ago.
Sargie wasn't home last night until well after nine. It'll be the same today as she closes the Vision Center.
I'm going to town pretty soon to purchase a can of fuel oil additive. The lawn should be dry enough to mow by the time I get home and the next four hours will be spent cutting and trimming. Then there's laundry and preparations for Sunday's Mighty Milligan Labor Day Celebration.
I guess I'd better put this body in gear and get into the fast lane of life. It's how we roll around here.
After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
Arg, it was raining. Grady with those new boots he's so proud of. All dressed up and no where to go. |
