Sunday was window washing day |

Pentoga Road
As always, it seems I'm running a day late and a dollar short. I fly out from Iron Mountain Wednesday morning to Indianapolis and onto Terre Haute to pick up Mom. We'll be driving back the next day and with any luck, should be back on Pentoga Road Thursday afternoon.
There's so much to do, so little me. The grass that was mowed last Thursday is once again ankle high. Weeds are beginning to pop up in the garden and then there's the innate male urge to go fishing, to protect and provide, to ensure Sargie receives needed nourishment by putting meat on the table.
Just as the migratory fowl instinctively wing their way north or south as the seasons pass, I also have this inexplicable urge to occasionally go fishing. Neighbor Mike and I will be heading to the lake this morning after Sargie leaves for work.
The past two days have been busy ones. Macrea spent Friday night with us after hitting a deer just a few miles away. He was on his way home from a meeting when the four-legged critter ran out in front of him.
The family was to attend a wedding on Saturday two hours north of here so Mel and Grady met Macrea at our house, leaving his car overnight.
Grady was the ring bearer in the wedding and Mel baked over three-hundred decorative cupcakes for the reception. We heard both were a huge success.
I purchased another trolling motor while in Iron Mountain Saturday morning. The old one had given out while I was fishing Friday.
With storms forecast for Saturday afternoon, I finished emptying the compost from the trailer. All the pots and flower beds were filled so I simply shoveled the dirt onto the empty ground between the giant pumpkin plants.
The storms roared in late Saturday afternoon as predicted and left .7 of an inch of rain before heading onto the east.
Sunday dawned clear and warm. Mark and Sheri came out early and Sheri got some rhubarb to freeze for future 4H projects.
We talked for a while before the folks headed back to town in their side-by-side ATV.
The kids, along with Mel's sister, stopped by later to get Macrea's car. It was good to see them and Grady enjoyed reuniting with his buddy, Brutus.
Hambone especially enjoyed sitting by the garden pond and dipping one foot into the cool water. Somehow or the other, the other foot, the one that still had the shoe on, also became submerged under water.
Of course, Grady gave Brutus a big ol' hug. It's hard saying goodbye when leaving a good friend.
Sargie and I spent most of Sunday washing the living room windows. The glass is old and brittle and I managed to break one storm pane trying to put it back in the combination frame.
I might have muttered a word or two.
Thankfully, I can run faster than Sargie who was chasing me around the house with a bar of soap with which to wash my mouth out.
I have to admit, I was a Jack ass Sunday afternoon. I hate washing windows and six hours of wiping and swiping while climbing up and down off a ladder with sweat dripping in my eyes and seldom seeing what I was washing put me in a horrible mood. Thankfully, Sargie forgave me and I have a year to work on my window washing social skills.
We need new windows, but I'd like to wait until the new first floor bedroom is built as the living room and bedroom will have a common wall, a new entrance, etc. etc. One way or the other, we're going to have to do something about the windows sooner rather than later.
Back home, Sargie potted a couple of mosquito plants before heading to the shower. I did the same then put brats on the grill for a late evening supper.
Sargie opens the Vision Center today. Neighbor Mike and I are going fishing first thing for a couple of hours. I want to be back by midmorning and continue to wash a few windows and finish some more honey-do jobs. There's lots to do between now and Wednesday morning.
After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
