Kudos to Evan (Mississippi Garry and Miss Jody's youngest grandson) for winning the Principal's Award and the Perfect Attendance Award at the end of the school year assembly.

Congratulations not only goes out to Evan "Monkey Boy" Davis for his awards, but also to his older brother, Nolan "James" for having grades superior enough to be able to skip final exams, and to sister, Abby, for also winning the Principal's Award and the Language Arts Award.

Miss Jody's smart genes must run strong and true through the family. Well, Mississippi Brother Garry, son-in-law and dad, Tommy, and daughter and mom, Kari, might have had something to do with it too, but I'll give Miss Jody the credit.

Congratulations kiddos! Uncle Tom and Aunt Sargie are proud of you!!

Thursday wasn't a very pleasant day. The temperature topped out in the mid forties then reversed and continued to drop throughout the day with occasional rain.

I busied myself working in the upstairs bathtub. Uh huh, that's right, in the tub. After bending over to remove the old caulk for over an hour, I decided to climb in, sit down, and make myself at home.

What a pain to remove the old caulk. Thankfully, I'd read that WD 40 would loosen it enough to peel away from the tub and wall. It helped, but some elbow grease and a putty knife was still required.

I dislike cutting any type of angles, let alone those on quarter round trim. Seems I always have to pause and think which corner is cut what way, what side of the trim faces which direction, etc. etc.

The trim was installed by mid afternoon.

I promised Sargie that I'd scrub the tub and remove all the footprints today. I can finally check this project off my growing list.

We had a beautiful visitor in the backyard Thursday afternoon, an Indigo Bunting.

This guy is an immature male and hasn't yet grown into his complete blue garb. Still, he made an impressive picture. Sargie and I each had a pair of binoculars and we watched him for quite a while out the back window.

Indigo Buntings weren't the only feathered friends to visit. The robins, in the throes of their mating season, are all over the place, chasing each other, singing, and doing all those things that overly hormonal robins do this time of year.

It was time to take a break so we hopped in the car, ran a few errands in town, then drove around the countryside.

The Mighty Brule River is in flood stage and lapping at its banks.

I told Sargie that with the rushing water, we could make our usual four hour float trip in about fifteen minutes. The river is as high as I've ever seen it.

Driving on the ATV trail across the Brule and into Wisconsin, Sargie noticed this sign. Check out the leg on the right hand side.

There is no leg. You have to wonder how the sign stays up.

She spotted a funny sight alongside one camp road.

I'd love to watch some overly zealous deer hunter with a few too many under his belt attempt to drive the posted speed limit on this two-track road.

Back home, Sargie did a couple of loads of laundry while I put away my tools from installing the trim. After, I brought all the bedding and potted plants into the garage since temperatures were forecast to dip down to the mid twenties.

Last night was spent watching television and relaxing. We both were ready to crash after a hard day of work.

Sargie opens today which means she ought to be home fairly early tonight. Since there's zero percent chance of rain in the forecast, I'm going to finish sealing the front porch. After, I plan to repair the pyramids so I can begin to add new soil, and assuming there's time left in the day and/or I still have some energy left, I'll pull the trailer loaded with compost alongside the garden and begin topping off the beds and planters with the rich soil.

It's to rain again Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, so I've got to make hay while the sun shines.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
