With the temperature in the mid 70's, Sunday was yard day
April 10, 2017 - Monday
42 degrees/cloudy skies/breezy
Pentoga Road

Whew, that was some series of storms that blew through during the night. The wind howled and the rain, thunder and lightening, made their presence known. The bad weather accompanied a cold front that came marching through and of course, one to three inches snow is in the forecast for tonight.

Sunday was extremely warm for this time of the year. Highs were in the mid 70's, at one point, pushing 80 degrees, and the humidity made the air feel as though it could be wrung out like a wet washcloth.

I was out in the shop first thing and FINALLY made something from a piece of popple, an Easter egg.

Seems every time I try turning popple wood, it shatters and often cracks or shreds then flies off the lathe.

Since this wood came from Yooper Brother Mark's plant, I gave the Easter egg to Sheri when they came to visit later in the afternoon.

Sargie had to work at noon, so I rode three miles up the road with her and walked back home.

There's enough firewood there to last me the rest of my life. Now if I could only talk them into dropping it off at our house.
The rest of the day was either spent cleaning the barn, preparing the lawn tractor for another season of mowing, or raking the lawn, first with the sweeper, then by hand in the out of the way places.

I swept over two full loads of spruce needles alone. They'd fallen during the heavy windstorm that blew through last month.

The biggest amount of time was spent raking. The entire yard is finished with the exception of the area around the clothesline and large wood shed. I ran out of energy before I could finish.

Yooper Brother Mark and Sheri stopped by and we dug part of a row of parsnips before the rain ran us inside. I'll finish digging the rest and take them into town sometime this week.

Sargie was home fairly early and we enjoyed a huge supper of leftovers. It's going to be difficult to get back into the swing of things after her recent vacation.

Sargie opens today. I told Sheri I would make two or three items to donate to a fund raiser for the local 4H club of which she is the leader. The weather is forecast to be cold and often snowy this week. There's no time like the present to get started.

Arg, from almost 80 degrees to the the upper teens (forecast) in just thirty-six hours. Oh well, we'll play like we're in the band and just keep marching ahead.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...

Let the season begin! The NFL draft begins next week!
