The view from Sheri's office after Tuesday's snowfall
January 12, 2016 - Thursday
02 degrees/partly cloudy/calm winds
Pentoga Road

Let's see, I could cut and paste Wednesday's writing into today's blog and save the time composing much of the same all over again.

The forecast was even the same, which was for one inch of snow, yet six fell during the day. We've received well over a foot during the past two days.

One thing for certain, the weatherman's going to have to work hard to regain my trust.

Thinking yesterday's snowfall would be minuscule, Sargie drove the Kia to work. Thankfully, she was able to leave two hours early last night and be home before dark. Most the roads had been plowed, the only exception being... Pentoga Road.

Pentoga Road on Wednesday morning. I rode several miles with Sargie while she was driving to work, was dropped off, and walked home.
Much of Wednesday was spent cleaning the drive and deck. The first time, I removed the drifts that had been formed by Tuesday night's strong winds. Yesterday afternoon found me plowing and blowing the six inches that had fallen during the day.

Oh oh. I didn't see Brutus's chain and managed to wrap it around the tines in the snowblower. With temperatures in the lower single numbers, I spent quite a bit of time unraveling the mess barehanded. Thankfully, nothing,
other than my normally pleasant personality, was damaged.

The snowblower was officially chained to the doghouse. I was blowing out the entrance when the chain was swept up in the impellers.

When I wasn't clearing the drive or deck, I was in the shop carving the rope into the lip of the small bowl, the one that began as the base of a wine glass. It took a while to figure out how I wanted to proceed before I actually made the first cut.

Strange, even though it's a practice bowl, a piece of junk on which to experiment, I still didn't want to make any mistakes. Of course, then I wonder what I'm going to do later with a bajillion miniature bowls? I've found they make great kindling for the wood stove.

Sargie and I had a wonderful late afternoon and evening together. As I told her, it was nice that we didn't have to try to fit an entire day together into one or two precious hours before bedtime. I'm looking forward to when we're able to spend more time with each other on a permanent basis.

Sargie opens the Vision Center today. I'll ride with her a few miles down the road and hike back. After, I'll take the snowmobile to the lake and check on the ice shack where it's been parked at the boat landing for the past two days. If there's no slush on the lake, I'll probably set it out and see if I can find any fish.

Speaking of fish, sister-in-law, Nancy, sent a picture of three nice walleyes that our nephew, Sargie's godson, Taylor, caught a few days ago.

I'm going to have to start hanging around that kid so I can learn how it's done. There's a large impoundment on the other side of Foster City where he often fishes. I wish it wasn't so far away, I'd be there beside him.

Other than check on the ice shack, I need to clean out the trap under the bathroom sink. I see it's draining slower and slower. Of course, there's always the shop. I think I'll start a new scroll saw piece and give the lathe a break for a day or two. I've seen a couple of things I want to try.

Meanwhile, it's time to throw a log on the fire, pour a cup of coffee, and think some deep thoughts.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
