Sargie, holding a light and supervising while I put away Christmas decorations

January 2, 2017 - Monday
23 degrees/cloudy skies/calm winds
Pentoga Road

It's another dark one this morning and I see on the radar that snow is just off to our west and headed this way.

The forecasts we see on the internet must be computer generated as they change on a whim. Last night, there was a 20% chance of light snow. Today, they are calling for 1 to 3 inches.

Sunday was a good, but busy one. While Sargie was getting ready for the day, I mounted the old garage door hinges onto the bottom side of the ice shack.

Lacking pins to attach the new tow bar, I drilled a small hole in each of the carriage bolts through which a cotter pin might fit for a quick release.

I haven't taken the shack for a spin around the block yet, but I believe the tow bar is complete.

We had a wonderful late morning drive to town and around the area lakes.

Seems there were people fishing on each lake, but I only talked with one person who said the action was slow.

The majority of the afternoon and evening was spent putting away Christmas decorations.

While Sargie wrapped and packed, I burned a trail going back and forth to the storage unit, first for empty totes, then to return with those that had been filled.

Sargie and I wrapped the reindeer and sleigh in plastic and stored them intact above the shop. Though each is made to come apart, it seemed so much easier to leave them intact since we have a safe place to store each out of harm's way.

Last night was spent watching the Packers beat Detroit. I was exhausted by game's end after digitally coaching with Yooper Brother Mark and John, who was in Seattle. As champions of the NFC North, we'll host the New York Giants next week at Lambeau Field.

Sargie is back to work today. I think I'll go for my usual walk then come home and put the finishing touches on the ice shack. After, I'll take the snowmobile down the road to the lake, check out the conditions, and I may or may not set it out today, depending on what I find and what time it is. I'm getting the itch to drill some holes in the ice and get serious about putting some meat on the table.

Time to listen to the news and think some deep thoughts. The first deep thought of the day is whether I should cut the shoestrings on my hiking boots by a couple of inches. No matter how I tie them, they still want to drag the ground.

If only you had my life.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...

At first, I was concerned that putting a plastic bag over Santa's head would cut off his air supply, but Sargie assured me that being a magical elf, Santa would have no problem breathing while being kept in storage. The jolly old fellow was later reduced from six feet tall down to a mere three feet, placed in a box, and is now sitting on a shelf in the storage shed.
