Look who dropped in on Saturday!
It's Hambone and Daddy!!
December 18, 2016 - Sunday
-6 degrees/clear skies/breezy
Pentoga Road

It's cold, getting colder this morning. Rumors have it that we'll see in excess of -20 by early Monday morning with a promise of strong northerly winds to make it seem even colder. I think I'm fairly safe in assuming that my ice fishing season will begin this coming week.

We were sitting around talking yesterday morning when the phone rang. It was Macrea saying he thought maybe he and Grady would drive over for a visit and to give Sargie her birthday present. Macrea had been in California last week on business and hadn't had a chance to see his mother.

I hurried outside and had just cleared the drive of snow when the boys pulled in. From then on, it was a busy and fun day.

Grady was quite taken with Grandma Sargie's new musical rotating clock. He'd never heard or seen anything like it and was quite taken every time it sounded.

Of course, Grady had to try out the new snowmobile.

We went zooming across Neighbor Mike's field then returned home to do the same through our woods and meadows. Snowmobiles and boys, big and little alike, seem to go hand in hand with each other.

Grady helped fill and hang the bird feeders, then stood on top of the step stool waiting for them to come.

We also brought in a wheel barrow full of wood. It was a busy day outside in some very cold temperatures.

Grady's been crooning a few Christmas songs so I got out one of my banjos and we made some real music. Give that boy a few years and he'll be playing on his own.

We later enjoyed Sargie's garlic seafood pasta for lunch. After, Grady started to go downhill. It was nap time.

He wanted to lie on Grandma Sargie's and Pawpaw's bed rather than in his crib. I didn't care, but made the mistake of lying down beside him.

I slept a full hour and Grady even longer. Playing outside, carrying in wood, filling the bird feeders, and making music wore both of us out!

Macrea also took a long afternoon snooze in the recliner. Grady figured as long as he was awake, it was time to get Daddy up.
The boys stayed until late afternoon. Grady was absolutely fascinated with all the snowmen and wooden soldiers Sargie has been painting over the past two weeks.

He gave each ornament a name, such as, "Bobby the Baby Snowman,"or "Sally the Snow Girl," and covered them all under a large blanket they wouldn't get cold. The figurines kept him entertained for quite some time.

Mom and Brutus continue their love fest. So far, Mom's managed to keep warm and should she would get a chill, her bulldog friend is standing by, ready to hop up in the chair and cuddle with her.

Since Brutus isn't allowed on the furniture, he gets as close as possible. Evidently, his little head got a chill so he wormed his way under Grandma's blanket.
After a very full day of playing and making music, hugs and kisses were given. It was time for Grady and Daddy to head back to Iron Mountain.

With a promise we'd see them soon, they drove down the road.

Saturday night was filled with Hallmark Movies and laziness. Ain't no one around here gonna die of a heart attack unless it's from over eating.

Yooper Brother Mark stopped out for a quick visit. He and Sheri had been busy on Saturday making an appearance at the Caspian Fire Station as Santa and Mrs. Claus. They are getting ready to fly to Wyoming on Christmas Eve to spend the holidays with Isabella, Sarah, and Curtis.

Sheri and Mark... I mean, Mr. and Mrs. Claus
Once again, today's looking to be pretty mellow. The Packers play the Bears at noon, so coaching is definitely on the agenda. At some point, we'll take a ride to town for our weekly dose of fried chicken and possibly ham, but otherwise, we'll take the day as it comes.

I hear Mom moving around upstairs which means it will soon be coffee time. Hey, someone has to sit by the fire, sip java, and help solve all the world's problems.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
