All roads lead to Green Bay. Friday was spent Christmas shopping in Title Town. |

Oh yeah, we're making ice this morning. After the past several days of cold temperatures and windy conditions, the area lakes should have frozen over during the night. Predictions indicate the cold will continue and it appears we'll be ice fishing within a week, two at the most. I can already taste that first platter of freshly caught fried bluegill and crappies. Mmm, put me in coach, I'm ready to play.
We arrived in Green Bay in good shape on Friday. Sargie's been wanting to have the car washed, inside and out, so our first stop was at a full service facility.
After, anytime we had a drink or snack in the car, I heard, "DON'T SLOP ON THE SEATS." What? Is Sargie implying I'm a slob?
We shopped here, there, and everywhere. I took advantage of one store, Fleet Farm, and purchased a new blade for the ice auger, another ice fishing rod, line, and several new jigs. They have the largest ice fishing inventory that I know of in this part of the country and I only wished I were a billionaire so I could buy at least one of everything.
Hundreds, if not millions, of dollars were spent at Sam's Club. While Sargie shopped for Christmas presents, I went out in search of needed household items. Thankfully, my foraging venture took me past several of the sample ladies, those who hand out the free tidbits of culinary goodies. My favorites were the spiral ham on sweet Hawaiian buns and the macaroon cookies.
We FINALLY found a double reclining couch and recliner that we both liked.
There was a problem. How to get them home? I contemplated strapping both to the top of the Kia, but since it was newly washed, I was afraid I'd get the car dirty or put a scratch in the new wax job. In the end, we simply sighed and walked away from the furniture section. Had we known, we'd have taken the Blazer and the trailer.
Some R&R while power shopping with Sargie |
A stop was made by the Packers Pro Shop for needed goodies. I wonder if that's what Heaven will be like, to enter the atrium at Lambeau Field, surrounded by friendly people wearing green and gold.
Of course, no trip to Green Bay would be complete without a stop at the mall. Sargie went to work looking for needed goodies while I found the old man section and people watched alongside those whose wives were also shopping.
It was past dark before we left Green Bay. We paused in Niagara, Wisconsin, to look at a very decorated home. Sargie knows the owners and says the gentleman, who is quite elderly, begins planning early in the year where all the lights and figurines will go. It's quite the sight.
The last stop of the day was at Grady's house where Sargie gave him a lighted reindeer.
We found Grady enjoying supper along with Mel and Macrea, but it didn't take long for the junior munchkin to finish so he might enjoy his new gift.
The look of joy and wonderment on his face when Macrea plugged in the lights was priceless.
Two tired and cold shoppers pulled into the garage on Pentoga Road last evening. Brutus was a nut case after being on his chain all day, so I took him to the back yard where we played fetch in the dark while Sargie began unloading the car.
Bedtime came soon after.
I'm uncertain what today will bring. Caught in the midst of the Christmas throes, I'm sure we'll keep busy. I still need to make three or four more ornaments and Sargie claims that she has more than enough to do.
Meanwhile, I think I'll go refill my coffee cup and throw another log on the fire, listen to the news, and think thoughts that aren't deep at all.
After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
Like the watchful eye looking over its kingdom, Lambeau Field, the mecca of Green Bay, can be seen from all over the city. |
