One side of the lattice down, another to go

Pentoga Road

Friday was an active day on Pentoga Road. Dawning clear, calm, and chilly, I took advantage of the lack of wind to spray Round Up (herbicide) around the perimeter of the garden, house, and property. The mixture and residue is lethal to all plants, so care has to be taken that there's no wind. Also, the splash from a heavy spray can carry even small drops onto desirable vegetation.

I usually spray two to three times a year, once early in the spring, another midway through the summer, and a final spray sometime in August.

The nasturtiums growing in the pyramids are beginning to bloom.
Due to a rising wind, I quit spraying and turned my attentions to working up firewood. Three loads were hauled and split with one shed just a load or two away from being completely full.

I've vowed to work up three large wheelbarrows' full daily until both sheds are completely filled and ready for next winter.

The next order of the day was to work on the arbor lattice. After so many mistakes, it was gratifying to see it actually going together. The right side was finally finished shortly after noon.

My mistakes. All this wood made it as far as the burn pile.
The other side will be started towards the end of next week after we arrive home from taking Mom back to Indiana.

Once both sides are finished, I'll sand and paint each before mounting and connecting them to the deer fence.

The UPS man delivered a set of shelves I'd ordered earlier this week. I was eager to get the lumber off the floor of the barn so I set about installing them.

The shelves are on sale and fairly inexpensive. I was so impressed how strong and well they work that I ordered another set last night.

Mom and I spent some quality time late in the afternoon watching a chick flick on Netflix. I'd originally intended to take a nap during the movie, but it was interesting enough that I watched the entire thing and am happy to report that I'm a more sensitive and understanding man for the experience.

The first pumpkin blossom of the summer. Unfortunately, it's a male blossom with nary a female in sight. I think I'm safe in saying there'll be no giant pumpkin this year.
It was Friday night and Sargie's first before beginning her vacation. What better way to celebrate than enjoying an all-you-can-eat fish fry? We met Yooper Brother Mark and Sheri and spent the evening filling our bellies, talking, and laughing.

The flowers in the front planter are beginning to bloom.
I'm not sure what we'll do today. I've already been outside and sprayed a second tank of herbicide. I hope to work up some more wood and after, who knows?

Well, one thing there's never any doubt of, that a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...

A major hurdle cleared... Bennet learned how to roll over onto his tummy.
