A rainbow after a brief shower on Sunday evening
July 18, 2016 - Monday
56 degrees/clear/calm winds
Pentoga Road

Arg, once again I find myself running a day late and a dollar short this morning. I slept like a rock last night, not waking once. Climbing out of bed was a chore and though I feel well rested, my body wants to return to it's rock-like state rather than get geared up for a typical action-packed day.

We had a pleasant Sunday on Pentoga Road. Much of it was spent in the shop, sanding the lattices and later, cleaning. There was dust everywhere, so I went over every surface with the brush attachment on the vacuum, then returned to wipe it all down with a damp rag. The shop is now ready to have the new window installed, something that I hope will happen in the near, rather than the far, future.

Sargie was busy herself doing laundry and cleaning the house.

The early afternoon saw us exploring new territory (for us) to the north and east of Crystal Falls.

Entering from the north, we found ourselves deep in the woods on a remote gravel road, traveling along a large reservoir.

There were times I wasn't sure where we were, but knew that since we'd entered from the north and east, if we kept traveling south and west, sooner or later, we'd have to hit US 2.

Sure enough, we came out alongside the Paint River in Crystal Falls. I still possess an orienteering skill or two.

We spotted this grave stone during our ride. After a hundred and six years, it's still heart breaking. Since the child died in December, we're wondering if he fell through the ice.
I was watering last night when I spied Sargie carrying the coffee table out the barn. She announced she was going to sand the top, stain it, then apply a coat of varnish... and she did!

Some slob has been setting his water glass on the table, not using a coaster, and left multiple water stains. I didn't even know they were there, but nothing escapes Sargie's scrutiny.

It was close to dark when Sargie suggested we take a four wheeler ride down to the river, a perfect way to end the day.

Large, isolated, thunderheads skirted the area, but none left any appreciable rain.
The wind was strong with the passage of a front and a bit of rain fell, just enough to make a beautiful rainbow.

Sargie opens the Vision Center today. I'm going to do my usual thing and begin measuring the shop in preparation of installing the new window. It's time to fire up the Man Truck and begin hauling some fill. There are several low areas that badly need it.

First, it's time for another cup of coffee and to think deep thoughts.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...

Nothing quite so good as a quick wading session in the Mighty Brule during a summer evening's four-wheeler ride.
