June 24, 2016 - Friday evening
81 degrees/clear/calm winds
Pentoga Road

I didn't get anything uploaded this morning as I played hooky... I went fishing! I'm going kayaking Saturday morning, so tonight's writing will have to suffice for both days.

I can't brag on the amount of fish I caught, but the early morning scenery was beautiful.

With a lowly loon to keep me company, I sat and soaked up the peace and quiet more than I actually fished.

Mom and I rode to Iron Mountain with Sargie on Thursday morning. Before leaving, we made a quick stop at the local pet store for several inexpensive goldfish.

They are now happy residents swimming in the small fountain pool in the garden.

Once home, I waded deep into the strawberry patch and by morning's end, I'd picked a large serving bowl full of large berries and a smaller one last evening.

Mom volunteered to remove all the stems and wash the berries.

In the end, six quart bags filled with sugared berries were frozen to be eaten this coming winter.

I hope to put up ten times that amount before the berry season is over.

The rest of the day was spent mowing the yard, meadows, and all the trails.

The thousands of raspberry brambles alongside the trails are filled with beautiful white blossoms.

I was mowing the front meadow when a doe stepped out, almost challenging me to continue. By the time I got the camera out of my pocket, she was trotting around the meadow and into the woods. I assume she had a fawn close by and was trying to distract me. She succeeded.

My internal alarm woke me around 4 this morning. I lay, snuggled with Sargie, debating whether to go fishing, but in the end, there was no decision to make. I was soon out the door and on the lake.

I was home by 8 AM. Sargie was in the shower and Mom was sipping coffee. I soon had my own cup and we talked right up to breakfast time. Sargie had to close tonight so this morning began late for her. She won't be home tonight until 9:30.

It was time to finish the interior trim around the new kitchen window. Mom and I drove to the lumber yard where I purchased some new trim. Once home, I discovered it was too wide! What to do? Going back to the lumber yard wasn't an option. I was hot, sweaty, and I just wanted to get the window finished.

I dug around in the barn and found the trim that I'd taken off the old window. Hmm.

Using the belt sander, I removed the old finish.

A coat of stain was applied and in the end, I had exactly what was needed to finish the window.

Isabella stopped by to see us this afternoon. We played, giggled, tickled, and oh yes, also found time to talk with Mama and Daddy.

Isabella decided that Mommy and Daddy, also Yooper Brother Grandpa Mark, and I, could take a sixteen mile kayak paddle down the Mighty Brule early Saturday morning.

I spent a couple of hours late this afternoon power washing the four large kayaks, checking the paddles and getting out the extra life jackets. We'll be ready to go first thing in the morning.

Sargie should be home fairly soon. She opens on Saturday morning but is off Sunday, Mom's 89th birthday.

Sargie just called and is on her way home. It's time to get this uploaded and begin the end of the day.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
