Springtime in the deep South.
February 17, 2016 - Wednesday
43 degrees/clear/calm winds
Laurel, Mississippi

And so our last day in southern Mississippi begins. We knew it would be a short trip, a fleeting vacation at best, but it's been worth every mile.

We've had visitors in the UP from far away, especially those who stay with us in the summer months, remark how beautiful the UP is, that indeed, God must live somewhere in that area. Yet, we visit  our good friends in southern Mississippi this time of year and I suspect that God must call this area his home.

I've come the conclusion that God must live everywhere. We're lucky to live in a world that has so many beautiful places and even luckier that we're able to visit many of them.

Yesterday was spent in Natchez, Mississippi, over on the Mississippi River.

Steeped in the rich traditions of the deep South, Natchez tells the stories of days gone by, of slavery, plantations, huge antebellum homes, cotton, and river boats.

As usual in most of these instances, I could write, but due to time constraints, it's so much easier for you to join us in our visit to Natchez through pictures taken yesterday. None do any of the scenery or homes justice, but it's the best I can do with what I have to work with.

Pictures aren't allowed to be taken inside the antebellum homes, so I have precious few. One camera decided it wasn't going to work yesterday, the other wasn't hitting on all cylinders, but I think you get the idea.

We're off for the Gulf Coast today, to visit Kevin, Garry and Jody's oldest son, and possibly taste some fine seafood. We'll be back early and begin packing for our journey home.

I hope to leave tomorrow morning around 7 AM and drive into northern Illinois or possibly, southern Wisconsin, by sunset. The weather willing and the creek don't run dry, we'll arrive back on Pentoga Road late Friday afternoon.

It appears around nine inches of snow has fallen in our absence. At least our timing was good. We have experienced a bit of spring, that warmer weather that should be arriving at Pentoga Road in another couple of months.

In the meantime, we'll just keep plugging away. After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
