Isabella - Ready to head outside for a day of fun in the sun... or at least the snow. |
-8 degrees/cloudy/breezy
Pentoga Road
I awakened around 3:30 this morning to the sound of the furnace running. Though the house was nice and warm, all I could think of was the oil the monster was burning.
I kept thinking, "Go to sleep go to sleep go to sleep..." and then I got up and went downstairs to get the fire going for the day.
Sargie asked if I was coming back to bed. I tried. After the stove was burning hot, I climbed the stairs, got between the sheets, and lay there wide awake. Sleep was something I did last night, not this morning. I finally got up, put on my heavy clothes, and came downstairs for good.
I've been looking back through old photos from Alaska. I occasionally go through bouts of home sickness and often marvel how my life has changed in the past four years.

I woke up every morning in the shadow of this extinct volcano, Mt. Edgecumbe |
I went from living in a remote cabin, to living on a boat surrounded by mountains, directly to Pentoga Road. It's been a ride and honestly, I wouldn't change anything. Still, it's nice to occasionally reflect back on what has been a very full and rewarding life.

You're not going to get anything by Ivy |
Sunday was a lazy day on Pentoga Road. Sargie got some much-needed rest and other than run the vacuum over the floors, I didn't accomplish too much.
We took our usual ride in the afternoon, well before the Packer's game and visited several area lakes. It was cold and windy and though there's enough ice, not many were fishing.
While driving, I was thinking how much gas has declined in price over the past several years. Sargie said she filled the car for $1.88 a gallon on Friday. It's come down a bit in the past two years.
Sargie and I watched the Packers beat up on the Redskins late Sunday afternoon. For at least three out of the four quarters, they looked like the Packers of old. We won our first playoff game. Three more victories and we'll be world champions once again!
Sargie's back to work today. I think I'll set the ice shack out on the lake today and do a bit of fishing. No doubt, I'll take my morning hike and wonder why I'm doing so as the headwind hits me in the face.
After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
