Pentoga Lake - beginning to fill
December 15, 2015 - Tuesday
26 degrees/cloudy/calm winds
Pentoga Road

And the rain came tumbling down. Until late last night,  sheets, buckets, and pails of the wet stuff splashed onto the ground. I have no idea what the final total was, but looking at what's in the wheel barrow, I'd hazard to say several inches.

Most of Monday was spent in the shop, just playing, trying one thing or the other. I tried my hand at freestyle artwork. One thing about it, I'll never quit my day job in hopes of making a living producing wood sculptures! Oh wait a minute, I'm retired. I have no day job.

I started on a Christmas ornament and absolutely love the new blade I'm using on one of the saws. True to my nature, I'm making this one out of a piece of old flooring. Someday I ought to break down and purchase some decent wood, but since I'm still learning and experimenting, "pre-owned wood" is good enough.

My biggest challenge when doing all the close work is getting enough light on the subject. At one time yesterday, I had three lights shining directly in front of me.

Mississippi Brother Garry sent a link of a store that sells various shop lights, so after the first of the year, I might get creative and try permanently mounting another one or two on the desk. It will be like working in a light booth, but it beats not working at all.

We went to town Monday afternoon to get a light bulb for a florescent lamp that had burned out, stopped for a Coke, and took a quick swing through Crystal Falls. The Paint River wasn't flooding, but our local lake is higher now than it has been in some time.

That white pipe on the bottom left was two feet out of the water four years ago. The lake level has been rising several inches a year since.
Sargie spent all of Monday evening wrapping presents. She had a table set up in the living room, paper on one side, presents on the other.

There must be a lot of good little girls and boys because the pile of goodies grew as the evening progressed.

We awakened to some white stuff on the ground this morning. More normal-like, wintery conditions and temperatures are forecast between now and Christmas.

My wheel barrow/rain gauge froze overnight!
I'm not certain what is on today's agenda. Sargie mentioned something about needing more wrapping paper which means a trip to town. I imagine I'll be in the shop continuing my puttering ways. Hey, it's just the way I roll.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...

Dr. Milligan, I presume?
(I like those glasses, but boy will she throttle me when she sees I posted a picture with a drawer pulled out. That's where she keeps her kitchen reading glasses. Others are stowed away throughout the house.)
