Congratulations! Jared shot a buck with bow and arrow on Thursday evening. He brought the deer for Mark and I to see on Friday morning. |

Pentoga Road
It appears as though it's going to be another beautiful day in the neighborhood. I look back at the weather from a year ago and compare it to what we have now... there is no comparison. Temperatures were thirty to forty degrees colder. There were several feet of snow on the ground and we were in the grasp of another long winter. It almost feels as though we've traveled to Florida this year for a holiday. The grass is still green and even my friend, Jimmy, the bothersome chickadee, isn't foraging for sunflower seeds in my coat pocket as wild food is still abundant.
Friday morning was spent shopping for a refrigerator in one fashion or the other. I looked at our one local appliance store, but they had little to choose from and as is typical, were quite expensive. Their prices, or tastes, are too high for us.
Ann, Mark's secretary, has a refrigerator for sale and we went into town and saw it last night. It's absolutely beautiful, only three years old, but it's almond in color. Sargie wants white.
A word about Ann's home. It's a showplace. I wish I would have thought to have taken a picture or two. An older home from the mining days, Ann has remodeled it into something that could be featured in Better Homes and Gardens. From the brick walls in the kitchen to the beams in the ceiling, it's beautiful.
I found a refrigerator from a small appliance store in Norway, a small community just on the other side of Iron Mountain. I talked with them yesterday and Sargie will do the same today. If she's satisfied, we'll order a side by side, 26 cubic foot, Frigidaire, and should have it by the end of next week. It has crushed ice and water in the door, overhead cams, chrome reverse, four on the floor with a four barrel carb, a Purple Burpie muffler, and is big enough to be a viable option for using when playing Hide and Go Seek. Now I have to cut the overhead cabinet to size so it will fit. Merry Christmas from Sargie and me to us!
I took the Blazer to Mechanic Dave's on Friday and left it so he can find where my signal lights disappeared to. He's suspicious of the trailer light hook up. Hopefully, he'll get that finished this weekend. I like Dave and he's a good man.
Yooper Brother Mark brought me home then stayed and worked on the barn door opener for the rest of the afternoon. Mark's sick... an ongoing cold that has called his body home for the past two months. Though I insisted we quit and he relax, the boy insisted on staying until the door traveled smoothly up and down. It works like new. Thanks, Mark.
However, if my Yooper brother doesn't go to the doctor for some medicine so he can finally get over the galloping crud, I may have to shoot him.
Sargie was home early last night and we went to town to see Ann's refrigerator, then later grabbed a burger and came back home. We were exhausted.
Sargie opens today and will arrive home tonight with Grady in tow. The little guy will be with us tomorrow and I'm guessing Sargie will take him back on Monday morning before work.
I'm going to work in the shop. I've been having some scroll saw problems. This time, it's with my main saw; the blade tensioner. I have the darnedest time getting all the little parts to line up and work together. It's a darn good thing I have oodles of patience, (<- a lie) otherwise, I'd take both of my old scroll saws and toss them in the garbage. I'll get the tensioner going, it just takes time and.... patience.
OK, time to move along and get Sargie up and rolling. She has the eyeballs of America to fix today. Me? I'm going to pour my first cup of coffee, listen to the news, and think deep thoughts.
Raccoon tracks frozen in the slush alongside the road in front of the house. Who knows what travels that road after dark? |
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
