October 5, 2015 - Monday
47 degrees/cloudy/calm winds
Pentoga Road

It's twenty degrees warmer this morning than it was a couple of days ago. How's that work? I'm told it's the El Nino along the equator that is causing our above-average temperatures this fall. I don't mind a bit, nor do I hear any complaints from my UP friends and neighbors.

Sunday was a bit frustrating. Sargie left for work at midmorning and I hopped on the mower to cut the grass for (hopefully) the last time this year. About halfway through, I turned too sharply and sheared a deck wheel off.

I was going to weld it back on, but discovered the tip on the wire-feed welder was bad. I meant to get some new ones the last time I was in Green Bay, but forgot.

In the end, I drilled a couple of holes and bolted the bracket and wheel onto the deck. It works great and when I get the welder going again, I'll just leave the nuts and bolts where they are. I won't have to worry about ever knocking that wheel off again!

One of these days, I'm going to have to buy a decent, used, 220 welder, one that is heavy enough to do what I need. This small one of mine, a 110 volt machine, is great for fixing small breaks, but it doesn't get hot enough for serious repairs on anything with heavier metal.

I finished the yard around the house and garden just in time to watch Green Bay defeat San Francisco in a late afternoon contest. It couldn't have happened to a better team. San Francisco has gleefully rolled over the Packers for three years in a row, often bragging and acting far better than they really were. Revenge can be a sweet sweet thing.

Sargie arrived home from work and we spent a quiet evening watching television. She feels much better this morning and it appears whatever she had that was ailing her has departed.

Sargie works early today. I'm going to finish mowing then work in the barn a bit. There's a house to clean and laundry to do, so it will be a busy day.

Mississippi Brother Garry and Jody are due to arrive either Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning and we're very excited about their visit. Though Garry and I write or visit daily (as we have for the past thirty years) we haven't seen each other face to face for almost four years. It's time.

I just remembered. I don't think I took any pictures yesterday. I was busy working on that darn mower and other than those I took and unloaded on my computer to see what I was doing, it didn't dawn on me to take any for the web page. Oh well, you'll have to use your imagination. No doubt, I'll snap some today. In fact, I'll add that to my list of "things to do."

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
