Thursday night's sunset was absolutely brilliant
August 21, 2015 - Friday
43 degrees/clear/calm
Pentoga Road

Brrr. I'm wearing jeans and a flannel shirt this morning and find myself eyeing the wood stove across the room. I'm not going to start a fire, but a small one would be nice, just enough to take the chill off the room.

I won't have to wait long to get warm. Today's high is forecast to peak around 80 degrees; warmer tomorrow.

Other than fix a mistake on the outside wall, I really didn't do much work on the shop yesterday. I was to the point that I needed to know the measurements for the doors and window, none of which had been purchased. I decided to make a trip into town and visit the Rehab Store - Habitat for Humanity.

I found a decent pre-hung interior door and a small combination window at $30 for both. I could chalk those off my list.

I decided to use 2x6's rather than 2x4's for the ceiling rafters. After framing three-quarters of the shop, I was amazed at how much storage area will be on top. In talking with my son, Luke, a fire fighter, about it, he suggested I go with the heavier lumber. It made sense.

Since Sargie had forgotten to take her lunch and she was closing on Thursday, I decided to drive to Iron Mountain and join her for a burger, then go on to Home Depot and buy the 2x6's. We ate in the car at City Park where an albino deer joined us for lunch.

By the time I arrived home, the afternoon was pretty well done. I did a bit of housework, took a shower, and decided to call it a day.

Sargie's off for the next three days. Her friend, Melinda, is coming over from Iron Mountain for a visit today. Other than socialize a bit, I'm going to work in the shop, try to frame in the last wall, then install the hangers and the rafters. I'm hoping Sargie can help me hang the ceiling sometime this weekend, a job that definitely takes two people.

Meanwhile, I'm going to relax until the sun comes up, sip coffee, and think a few deep thoughts.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
